Stevie Nicks is a phenomenal vocalist well-known for her incredible songs and contributions to classics.
During her storied career, the singer had a significant effect on the world of music. More so, Nicks chose not to remain aloof about how women are viewed in rock and has done her part to push the agenda for female singers in the music industry.
One co-star who has felt the impact of the music legend is Katy Perry. Nicks had in the past voiced her love for the “Roar” singer and her style of music. And on one occasion, her love for Perry made her dish some friendly advice on what to do about feuding with others in the music business.
‘You Don’t Need Rivals’
Nicks, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, was interviewed for the New Yorker and spoke about the highlights of her career. While the chat was ongoing, Nicks dropped some tidbits about a conversation she had with Perry in the past.
The Fleetwood Mac member told Tavi Gevinson, a reporter, that she had a chance encounter with Perry at the Corinthia Hotel in London back in 2012. The pair then discussed music business rivalry as well as how engaging in such issues was not ideal.
“She said, ‘So Stevie, who are your rivals?’ And I said, ‘I don’t have rivals.’ And her big blue eyes got bigger and bluer,” the singer said. “And I said, ‘No Katy, I don’t, and neither do you. You are Katy Perry, you’re who you are, you do what you do, and you’re great at it. I’m Stevie Nicks, I do what I do, and I’m great at it. We don’t have rivals. That’s just ridiculous.”
Katy Perry Comments On Her Alleged Rivalry With Taylor Swift
At the time, Perry, 37, referenced Taylor Swift in their conversation, citing her alleged feud with the award-winning pop star, which made the headlines.
“She said, ‘Well, there’s like, the Taylor Swift army and there’s like, the Katy army and there’s like —’ And I was like, ‘That’s just bulls – – t,'” Nicks added.” ‘You have to just walk away from that. Don’t carry that around in your mind because then they’re winning the game.”
Following the conversation with Nicks, Perry appeared to absorb the advice and implement its values. Although it took a while, she eventually reached out to her female colleague and took the first step to end the bad blood.
Perry Reached Out To Taylor Swift
In a 2019 interview with Australian radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O, Perry how she and Swift chose to put their feud behind.
“It kind of was a process. I sent her a literal olive branch and a note apologizing for my part in all of it when at the start of her ‘Reputation’ tour. I just thought she was about to embark on something new and big and needed the support,” Perry admitted.
She added, “As I was finishing mine, I realized how much we have in common, and maybe there are only five other people in the world that can have the same type of conversations and understand where we’re coming from and that we should celebrate our commonality and our friendship and be able to be there for each other.”
Nicks Relationship With Christine McVie
In her interview with the New Yorker, Nicks also talked about her relationship with Christine McVie. The songstress detailed how they both choose to be independent about their choices and not rely on anyone to validate their talents.

“We were very protective of each other. We made a pact, in the very beginning, that we would never be treated with disrespect by all the male musicians in the community,” said Nicks. “And we stuck to it. I think we did the pinky swear thing that, if we ever feel like we’re being treated like that, we would get up and walk out—and we did. We would just say, “Well, this party is over for us.”
