Singer Kelly Clarkson is coming back “Stronger” with a new name! Although she made her name for herself after winning the very first season of “American Idol” in 2002 and now hosts “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” it seems that Kelly might be looking for a total rebrand!
Kelly Clarkson Files To Change Her Name… To Kelly Brianne!
That’s right! In documents obtained by The Blast, Kelly Brianne Clarkson is dropping her last name, so she will only be known as Kelly Brianne. In the documents, she is required to give a reason for her name change.
“A desire to change my name,” she wrote. “My new name more fully reflects who I am.”
The form was filed on February 14th - Valentine's Day - so it looks like Kelly might want to spend the new year focusing on some self-love this year!
Brandon Blackstock… Is It ‘Because Of You’?
It seems that Kelly might want to change her name in order to separate herself from her ex, Brandon Blackstock. The two went through a messy divorce that ended last year. The two first got married in 2013 and had two kids together: River Rose and Remington Alexander.
Last year, The Blast reported that a judge had finally allowed her to drop Blackstock from her name and restored her legal name to Kelly Clarkson in August 2021.
Earlier today, the 39-year-old “Miss Independent” singer gave fans a glimpse of her quarantining at home on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” as she chatted with guest host Taraji P. Henson from home.
“Sometimes women don't rise. Sometimes we fall,” Kelly joked.
“I thought we were done with quarantining, and I'm so tired,” she added. “I broke a nail. I'm so broken. This is me broken. My almond milk just expired. America, this is what I look like. You're welcome.”
“I'm not even sick. It's so weird,” she continued. “Anyway, we're keeping it safe.”
It sounds like Clarkson is having a rough time of it!
Kelly Clarkson: ‘Me Being Me Has Been Really Hard’
It’s possible that Kelly might be looking to take some time out of the spotlight by changing her name. In an interview with host Mayim Bialik on “Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown,” she said that “me being me has been really hard.”
“I think the biggest thing for me in my whole career is, just being me has been really hard,” Kelly said before gesturing to her face. “Like, no manager would ever want me to do this — I have no makeup on.”
“Everybody would always micromanage everything and try to get you to be somebody that you're not, and the hardest part has been being me,” she went on. “So I think that's been the hardest challenge, I guess I'd say, with mental health.”
Kelly Clarkson Has Come To Realize That She Can’t Please Everyone!
Kelly told Mayim the story about how she was sitting in a room full of older men who were giving her advice… but she didn’t need it!
“I was sitting in a room full of — no offense, I love men, I love older men, they're great — but I was sitting in a room full of men that were far older than me telling me what I should be like, what I should say in interviews, what I should sing, and I'm like, 'Y'all don't even listen to me. You're not even my core audience. Like, how would you know?'” Clarkson recalled. “I realized in that moment, I will never please anyone. I won't. You can't please them all.”
Instead, the experience taught her to embrace a new philosophy: “I'm going to do what I want to do in that moment.”
“I get out of my glam room and I am like, 'Harry freaking Potter just got ahold of my face. I don't even look like the same human,'” she joked. “But in my every day? Nah. I'm not going to get dressed up to go to Target or hang out with my friends.”
Kelly Is Learning To Embrace What She Looks Like As She Gets Older
Although she has previously struggled with body issues, Kelly admitted that she’s learned to embrace aging and what her body looks like.
“I hope people see that this is what it looks like, this is how you look when you get older,” she said.
“My body is an anomaly; it should be studied when I die,” she joked. “I can literally gain two sizes, or lose two sizes, from morning to lunch. It is the weirdest thing; it's all inflammation, whatever.”
Kelly Clarkson Says It Was ‘Overwhelming’ To Be Thrust Into The Spotlight
Kelly also opened up about the “overwhelming” fame she received after appearing on “American Idol.”
“It was just on such a global level that I think it was overwhelming,” she said while she was touring for her 2004 album “Breakaway.” She said she “literally started hysterically crying” when she realized she couldn’t even go to the store to buy milk without being hounded by fans or paparazzi.
“'I can't take it back,'” she remembers telling her brother. “You can't take it back. You're just famous. Even if it doesn't work out and you're not famous anymore — your career goes to c--- or whatever — you're still famous, like people still know who you are in a lot of places.”
It seems that Kelly might be hoping that a name change will help her retreat to a more private life. Her fans will support her no matter what!
