'Super Bowl LVI' got off to a terrible start after one of the NFL's biggest stars -- Adrian Peterson -- was reportedly arrested for domestic violence.

According to law enforcement, the former Minnesota Vikings running back was busted and booked into a Los Angeles jail for felony domestic violence. The NFL star was in town for parties and events connected to the big game and was reportedly arrested as he headed back to Houston on a flight out of LAX.

Airport police reportedly got a call around 8:30 am for a disturbance on an aircraft leaving Los Angeles en route to Texas. Apparently, the aircraft was forced to turn around and head back to the gate following a "verbal and physical altercation" between a man and a woman.

This isn't the first time Adrian Peterson has dealt with criminal charges connected with violence in his family. Back in 2014, Peterson was indicted in Texas for "reckless or negligent injury to a child after he allegedly disciplined his son with a tree branch.

According to the police report, Peterson admitted to "whooping" his child while the boy was visiting him in Houston. Following the trip, the 4-year-old returned to his mother who reported the tree branch incident to police. He was accused of repeatedly striking the boy but says it was a means of discipline.

At the time, Peterson's attorney issued a statement claiming he was a "loving father" and claimed any injuries during the parenting incident were "unintentional."

"It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury," his attorney said. The lawyer addressed a second allegation, saying, "The allegation of another investigation into Adrian Peterson is simply not true. The allegation is more than one year old and authorities took no action," Hardin said. "An adult witness admittedly insists Adrian did nothing inappropriate with his son."
