Ferrera's Role In 'Barbie' Is Unknown

Amy Schumer Almost Played Barbie

Back in 2016, when plans for the movie were coming together, actress Amy Schumer was in talks to be cast as Barbie. Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict with another project, she dropped out of the film.

In a 2017 statement to Variety, Schumer said, "The film has so much promise and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I'm bummed, but looking forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen."

This then opened the gates for Robbie, who later told USA Today, "Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child's journey to self-discovery… I'm so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide."
