Matthew Perry is widely known for his role as Chandler Bing on the iconic “Friends” series. Now fans are about to get more familiar with him.
After snagging a multi-million dollar book deal with a division of Macmillan Books, Perry has announced the debut of his awaited autobiography.
The Screen Actors Guild Award winner recently revealed the cover and title of his memoir and talked more about it in a humorous way.
Matthew Perry Reveals The Title & Cover For His Autobiography
On Thursday, February 10, Perry took to his Instagram page to debut the cover of his memoir titled “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.”
The simplistic cover showed a portrait of the star dressed in a black shirt and smiling warmly at a camera with captivating blue eyes.
Perry explained that his book would be a word from the horse’s mouth about all the things that have been speculated about him in the media, as well as detail how he survived turbulent times. He said:
“So much has been written about me in the past. I thought it was time people heard from me. The highs were high, the lows were low. But I have lived to tell the tale, even though at times it looked like I wouldn’t. And it’s all in here.”
In tune with his humorous character on the “Friends” series, the actor concluded with a joke, writing, “I apologize that it’s not a pop-up book.”
Last October, The Blast revealed that Perry had snagged a seven-figure deal for his memoir under a division of Macmillan called Flatiron Books which gives them the rights to publish his life story.
Per Deadline, the book is set to be released in Fall 2022 and promises to give fans a raw insight into the star’s time on “Friends” as well as his struggles with addiction.
Flatiron Books publisher Megan Lynch told the outlet how telling Perry’s story aligns with company goals. She explained:
“We need humor, we need catharsis, and we need to agree on something–and Matthew’s extraordinary story, told in his inimitable voice, is that.”

Lynch credited “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing” as a book with the potential to unite people with its strong themes of self-awareness and humor.
Perry skyrocketed to fame by starring on all ten seasons of “Friends” with co-stars Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc, and David Schwimmer.
The 52-year-old went on to star in other projects, including “The Good Fight,” “The Odd Couple,” “The Good Wife,” and others.
Last year, Perry was the subject of concern and criticism about his physical appearance when he and his co-stars reunited for the HBO Max’s “Friends: The Reunion.”
Fans took to social media to comment that the actor appeared visibly haggard and spoke slurred. Many chalked up his condition to his long struggle with drug addiction.
The show’s director Kevin Bright came to Perry’s defense and explained that his unusual look was due to an emergency tooth surgery he had on the shoot day.
These comments and more may have inspired Perry’s autobiography as he told PEOPLE:
“There has been so much written about me by others in the past. I thought it was time people heard it directly from the horse’s mouth. In this case, the horse’s mouth being me.”
