Although this season is going to focus on the love life of Jonathan Bailey’s Anthony Bridgerton, fans will be excited to see Kate’s loveable corgi, Newton, make an appearance. Newton first made an appearance in Julia Quinn’s book “The Viscount Who Loved Me.”

Creator Chris Van Dusen told Entertainment Weekly that “Newton is beloved, and I always wanted to include him in this season.”

“There's a little arc for him that audiences can look forward to,” he added.

Although Newton loves to cause trouble for everyone around him, the actors revealed that the doggy actor who plays Newton, Austin, was just as much trouble as Netwon is!

Chandran said that “Austin was not necessarily the best-behaved dog” on the “Bridgerton” set!

“But there were so many hilarious moments,” she added. “There was a scene where he's outside and you had to get him to sit by feeding him treats. At one point, he was so full on all the treats, he just fell asleep on the set in the middle of his shot.”

Bailey also joked about Austin’s fondness for treats.

“Austin played Newton and it's a sterling, stunning performance, but do you know what? We didn't get on,” he joked. “He just loved the sausage and there's nothing wrong with loving the sausage, but it was more the way we had to hold little crumbs of sausage in my hand to try and get him to jump in my lap.”

“It’s amazing that I got to work with him because he’s obviously going places,” he continued. “But we didn’t really click.”

In addition to sausage and treats, Ashley recalled that he was also fond of eating pebbles!

“One of the buildings we filmed at, there were pebbles on the driveway” Ashley recalled. “I'd have him on the leash and he'd just be eating the stones and pooping out stones in between takes.”

Fortunately, Ashley was able to develop a strong bond with Austin to echo the strong relationship Kate and Newton have in the books.

“I'm really good with dogs, so he responded to me well,” she said. “He was a little bit sass and goes off and does his own thing, but I like to think when we were together, he listened to me. Whenever we would do a line run and Newton was there, he would just get in the middle of the circle and roll on his back and be like, 'Hey, what's up?' That was quite cute.”

What’s Next For Daphne This Season?

Although Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) got a chance to find love in the show’s first season, she isn’t going to go anywhere for season two!

In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, Van Dusen and Dynevor sat down to talk about what fans can expect from Daphne in season 2.

“Daphne remains a vital part of our story,” Van Dusen said. “She’s now a devoted wife and, of course, still a loyal sister to her seven siblings. It’s a bit of a reverse of their season 1 dynamic, in terms of Anthony sticking his nose in Daphne’s business. Now Daphne gets to stick her nose in his.”

“Daphne has become the adult of the family,” Dynevor added. “She’s found what she’s looking for — she’s had a baby, she’s a wife and mother. There’s a real confidence and womanhood about her this season.”

“She’s running the family because she’s the one who’s settled now,” Dynevor added. “She is the rock of the siblings in this season, which is quite nice to play. Daphne’s leading the way in terms of knowing what love is, what it means, and what marriage means, and she’s trying to pass on that knowledge to Anthony.”

“Daphne has a really good knack of not only empathizing with people around her, but also seeing their blind spots,” Dynevor added. “She did it with Simon, and now she’s doing it with Anthony.”

Season 2 of “Bridgerton” hits Netflix on March 25, 2022!
