NFL Star Antonio Gates' Wife Files For Divorce After 11 Years Of Marriage

NFL star Antonio Gates is headed down the road of divorce after his reality show wife legally filed to end the couple's marriage.

'WAGS' star Sasha Gates filed for dissolution of marriage in Los Angeles County Courts, asking the court to end her marriage with former 'San Diego Chargers' tight end, Antonio Gates.

Antonio is one of the great football players of all time, appearing in 8 Pro Bowls (an NFL record) and arguably the greatest tight end to ever play the game. In 2020, Gates retired from the Chargers after 16 years, after catching a mind-blowing 100 touchdown passes.

During the marriage, Sasha starred in the E! reality show 'WAGS' (Wives and Girlfriends of professional athletes.) She is an aspiring singer and works in the fashion industry after getting a degree in fashion merchandising. Plus, Sasha runs a non-profit called 'The Dolling Foundation' provides wigs to women suffering from hair loss due to illness.

The couple tied the knot in June of 2011, and have two children together.

According to reports, the couple was married at the Grand Mar Hotel in San Diego, in a lavish ceremony. Several NFL stars were among the 250 guests, including Shaun Phillips and Stephen Cooper.

The best part of the big day was the FOOD! The couple treated guests with a five-course meal consisting of duck foie gras, caramelized shallot ravioli in brandy butter sauce, braised short ribs, and grilled prawns. Hungry yet?! It was surrounded by buttermilk mashed potatoes, and a special red velvet wedding cake was flown in from Trinidad!

Antonio Gates recently opened up at the struggles of marriage and raising children while playing a professional sport. Gates is the father of four children.

"It's very difficult because of the demands of this profession," Gates said.

He continued, "It makes it tough.  But, I'm a firm believer in having to find a way to balance it all out.  That's what good dads do.  But it's very tough.  It's one thing to be on a team, but it's another when you're trying to be the pinnacle of what you do.  It presents a whole different dynamic and challenge."

Adding, "You have to find ways to make time for your family when the time presents itself.  I structure it.  To me, the structure is a form in my opinion that works. In anything you do or in any relationship you have (it works). Certain nights we'll do things with the kids. Friday nights are movie nights. But for the most part, one day of the week we have dinner night and movie night.  If we're tired, we'll do something else. We have to carve out one day at a time."

Interestingly, he admitted to knowing his family might have trouble with his absence, saying, "Hopefully when it's all said and done, they'll forgive me! But also, they'll understand that when you have a family, you have to support your family; that's my duty."

At this point, it's unclear what broke up the couple, but Sasha cited "irreconcilable differences."
