People have always imagined what it would be like if our devices could read our minds, especially assistive AI systems like Amazon’s Alexa. It would either bring another level of comfort to our lives or go terribly wrong, but it is an exciting concept.
Scarlett Johansson and her husband, Colin Jost, have partnered up with the Super Bowl and Amazon and created a commercial exploring what their married life would be like if their Alexa device could read their minds.
They also inserted a few jokes that poke fun at how they are as a couple, and their fans love it. Read on to find out more about the commercial, the jokes they made, and more about Johansson and Jost as a couple.
Johansson And Jost Explore With Amazon’s Alexa
In the new commercial for the 2022 Super Bowl, Johansson and Jost explored what their life would be like if Amazon’s Alexa device could read their minds, and in the process, they exposed their private thoughts.
A sample scenario is when Johannson wakes up in bed one morning and rolls over to tell her husband, “I love that we get to sleep in.” At this, Jost winces and plants his nose into his pillow, hinting that his wife has a case of morning breath.

Immediately, Alexa, with the all-knowing abilities, says, “Ordering fresh mint mouthwash. Extra strength,” as the “Black Widow” actress gets up and smells-tests her breath.
The Ad Also Explored Other Scenarios
The 90-second commercial also explored other scenarios where a mind-reading Alexa led to hilarious and terrible situations. One such scenario was where Jost asked Johansson if she enjoyed her kissing scenes with her hot co-stars.
The “Lucy” actress then assures him that she doesn’t and says, “It’s the worst.” However, just as she is done talking, Alexa exposes her lie by playing the song “Little Lies” by Fleetwood Mac.
Another scenario was when Alexa exposed how Johansson really feels when she has to listen to Jost, but all she really wants to do is get some work done, or when the Saturday Night Live star has to attend one of Johansson’s performances but would rather fake his death.
They Wrote Some Of The Jokes
In an interview with Variety, Claudine Cheever, the VP of global brand and fixed marketing for Amazon, said that Johansson and Jost were “very involved in the writing of the jokes” for the Alexa commercial.
She also said, “Celebrities work well for us when they poke fun at themselves and are willing to have fun with themselves rather than just show up and be themselves. It’s something we are always thinking about when we are casting.”
Jo Shoesmith, the executive director of global creative at Amazon, also explained why they picked Johansson and Jost to Adweek. She said, “Early on in the script development, we realized it was pretty important we had a married couple within this story that didn’t take themselves too seriously and would be able to play to the humor within the story.”
Johansson And Jost Have Two Kids
In May 2019, Johansson and Jost got engaged after two years, and in October 2020, they married in a small and intimate ceremony. Johansson had a daughter previously, a 7-year-old named Rose, and the couple later had a son named Cosmo.
In a November 2020 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Johansson said she has been experiencing a baby bliss bubble since she gave birth to Cosmo. She said, “I feel very fortunate that I’ve been able to take this time to really enjoy the early stages of my motherhood with our son. It’s been wonderful. I’m in a ‘baby bliss bubble.”
