Zendaya + Euphoria + Emmys is all ANYONE can talk about on social media.
If you didn’t catch last night’s episode, beware there will be some SPOILERS ahead.
Also, if you plan to watch it, please note it is very intense, sad and dark, and it could be triggering
In episode five of season two, viewers see Zendaya’s character, Rue Bennett, suffer from withdrawals, go into multiple aggressive, manic meltdowns, and commit illegal crimes.
The episode itself is truly terrifying, but Z’s performance is astoundingly mesmerizing.
Zendaya's "Euphoria" Performance Blows Up The Internet
Zendaya’s name has been popping off since Sunday evening and continues to be the talk of Twitter.
For instance, in just one hour there were nearly 10K tweets collectively about Zendaya and the Emmys.
Her co-star, Angus Cloud, who plays Fez the drug dealer on “Euphoria,” tweeted on February 6, “Zendaya is an incredible f***ing actress. Holy F**k. #Euphoria.”
He followed it up with, “GIVE ZENDAYA HER EMMY NOW! #Euphoria.”
Chloe and Halle Bailey echoed Angus’ sentiment individually tweeting, “my my my Zendaya you were incredible tonight. What a TALENT are you kidding meeeee,” and “Zendaya is phenomenal!!!!!”
Travon Free tweeted, “Condolences to everyone who lost their Emmy to Zendaya tonight.”
Another fan predicted this performance would get Z her second Emmy.
Zendaya Could Win Her Second Emmy For This Performance
“Tonight’s Euphoria will earn Zendaya another Emmy nomination (and likely) another Emmy win. Enjoy.”
Zendaya won her first Emmy in 2020 for her role as Rue. She won the award for "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series."
Like I said, it was absolutely mesmerizing while simultaneously terrifying.
While this season proves to be an even bigger hit and the first, it is still getting backlash for the mature nature of the show.
“Euphoria” does include graphic content such as sexual situations, drug use, alcohol use, and more.
On January 9, Zendaya issued a message on Twitter regarding the negative chatter.
She wrote, “I know I’ve said this before, but I do want to reiterate to everyone that Euphoria is for mature audiences. This season, maybe even more so than the last, is deeply emotional and difficult to watch. Please only watch it if you feel comfortable. Take care of yourself and know that either way you are still loved and I can still feel your support. All my love, Daya.”

In a new interview with Variety, Zendaya detailed this episode which involves a vigorous amount of physical activity and strength on her part.
Zendaya Was Left With Scars & Bruises From Episode Five
For a good five to ten minutes, we see Rue running all across her town to get away from her mom and the cops.
She is jumping on trash cans, roofs, over fences and sliding under garages.
Z told the outlet, “It was a very tough day. I mean, I beat myself up. I still have some scars on my legs and got quite a few bruises.”
“It’s always been a really intense episode…the general idea was always the same, which was this idea of, we cut right into an intervention and it’s Rue just ripping her life apart and setting her life on fire and kind of tearing everything to the ground to basically come to hopefully what feels like rock bottom for her,” she said of this particular episode.
Zendaya filmed this episode in 2021 after returning from the Venice Film Festival, which she attended for “Dune.”
“It was so intense and scary to tackle, and obviously something that would be incredibly emotionally taxing, but also physically taxing. Also, I care about Rue and I hate when she’s in pain. And I think this whole episode, there’s so much pain and it’s bubbling to the surface, and it’s also crossed with her withdrawing, which is extremely physically painful.”
The show has performed so well that HBO has already greenlit a third season.
