Here Is Why Jennifer Lopez Dubbed Her Children 'Coconuts'

Jennifer Lopez, mostly known as J-Lo, is one of Hollywood's top celebrities. Alongside her storied career, the multi-hyphenate has had to juggle training her two kids.

Lopez often gushes about her kids, posting cute pictures of their intimate moments on her social media accounts. She admitted that it feels surreal, having to watch them turn into adults who now have their own lives.

It is interesting to know that the singer-dancer addresses her children "coconuts." Although the name might seem weird, the singer has a cute reason for the tag.

Here is why Lopez choose these nicknames for her kids

Lopez had a recent interview with Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest on their eponymous show "Live With Kelly and Ryan." While she discussed aspects of her life, the actress also revealed what inspired the nickname "coconuts" for her kids, Max and Emme. She added that she dubbed them the names from an early age.

"I still call them coconuts," said Lopez. "I think that they like it. I like to think that they like it. It's cute. I call them coconuts because obviously, they're twins; there are two of them. And when they were in the crib—they were very, very little—their hair looks like coconut hair. You know, on a coconut. So, I used to call them coconuts, and it just stuck."

Lopez's children have outgrown infancy and are now full-blown teenagers. The actress marveled at this new status and spoke of her children having a mind of their own.

The singer disclosed that she learns so much from her kids and how they delight in keeping her abreast with recent events and stories. Now, Lopez has to stay up to date to help know what her kids are thinking.

"It's a whole different thing. It's a different world," Lopez said on the show. "Especially, since a couple of years ago, they were in the crux of that transition from being babies to getting conscious of what's going on."

Lopez shares her two kids with her ex-husband Marc Anthony. The twins were born in 2008. According to People magazine, Lopez described their birth as a touching moment and added she felt an emotional reaction when the doctors detached their umbilical cords from her.

During a 2008 interview with People, Lopez described how she felt about her status as a mother. She referred to the experience as one of the biggest things that had ever happened to her.

"Having children is the biggest thing that can happen, I think, to a woman," Lopez said. "You win an Oscar, get nominated for a Golden Globe — you know, whatever things you think are big — I can't even think of anything that can match the actual miracle of giving birth and having your own child. It's beyond anything you could ever imagine."

Lopez added that her heart feels connected to her kids, and her experience has helped her form a better opinion of what it truly feels like to be a mother.

Lopez once said she was uncertain about many parts of love. She admitted that she had not really figured out her love life. However, after welcoming her children, the actress disclosed that their birth helped answer some of her questions.

"[The album] Love came from my questions about love and life," said the actress during the same 2008 interview. "And I think the babies had a lot to do with that. When the babies were born, and I felt that love and that unconditional love, I was like, 'OK, this is what it's supposed to be.'"

Lopez is in a relationship with her former flame Ben Affleck. Perhaps more of her questions would be answered as their love blossoms.
