"Black Panther" was unarguably one of the biggest films of 2018, and Michael B. Jordan was a big part of the film's success. One of the significant points that critics praised in the movie was the storytelling and casting choices, especially for characters like Erik Killmonger, which Jordan played.

Despite his role as a villain in the movie, Killmonger received a lot of empathy from audiences, which built him a solid fan base. Unfortunately, "Black Panther" concluded with him being killed off.

Killmonger Died At The End Of Marvel's 'Black Panther'

"Black Panther" was set in the fictional nation of Wakanda, a place rich with a rare mineral known as Vibranium. At the beginning of the film, King T'Chaka killed his brother, who was also Killmonger's father, after discovering that he had tried to smuggle and sell Vibranium to outsiders.

To avenge his father's death and his abandonment, Killmonger schemed and eventually found his way to Wakanda. Upon his arrival, he claimed the throne and defeated T'Chaka's son, T'Challa, in a battle for the crown.

When T'Challa recovered and returned to fight Killmonger one more time, it was a bloody battle that ended with Killmonger's death. With T'Challa once again King, peace was restored in Wakanda, and the film ended. It was also the end of the possibility of Jordan featuring in a "Black Panther" sequel or Marvel film.

Jordan Sparked Hope That Killmonger Might Make A Return

Since Killmonger's death, his fans hoped that Marvel would create a loophole and resurrect him for future movies. However, that hope slowly died down as the years passed and other Marvel movies were released. Now, Jordan's statements have inflamed it again, and it's more vital than ever.

He spoke to MTV News about the possibility of Killmonger returning to the MCU and offered an open-ended answer. He said, "I think it's a character and a world that I love so much, who knows? But as we all know, Marvel has their plans and their things. Who knows how things are going to shake out?"

Reports Have Supported The Possibility

In 2019, unconfirmed reports spread that director Ryan Coogler intended to revive Killmonger and most of the original cast from "Black Panther." With the first film's massive success, it made sense to fans that they would expound more on the fan-favorite characters.

The one hurdle in this plan was that Killmonger had obviously died in the first movie. Coogler would have to think up a crazy loophole to bring Jordan back into the MCU. Some sources noted that Coogler planned to use flashbacks as a method of showing more of Killmonger's story or cameos to show him in the ancestral plane.

Killmonger Featured In Marvel's What If? Series

Marvel recently launched the What If series, which explores alternate futures to the characters of some of their popular movies. The sixth episode explored a future where Killmonger saved Tony Stark from being abducted in Afghanistan, changed the whole MCU timeline and Stark's life, and became the rightful King of Wakanda.

Jordan featured in the episode as a voiceover for his character, but that's all he has done with Marvel since "Black Panther." Still, Killmonger fans have held out hope that Marvel will pull their signature twists and turns in phase 4 or that the multiverse introduced by Loki will bring Killmonger back.
