Justin and Britney were linked from 1999 to 2002. While promoting her memoir on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Jamie Lynn said she was "so sad" after the relationship ended because "everybody thought it was forever."

When they first started dating, Jamie Lynn said, "That was probably one of the best times in my whole family’s life."

However, she was "so sad" after their breakup, although she says she wasn't quite sure why.

"I don’t really know why I was so sad, but I was because I think everybody thought it was forever," she explained. "But I was so sad first off because my sister was so sad. That also too was the first time I saw [that] maybe I didn’t know everything about the relationship, because perhaps they were protecting me."

"Obviously, why would they talk to me about anything? It was really sad, though, seeing my sister be so heartbroken," she added.

During the interview, Jamie Lynn also brought up how everyone was speculating that Justin’s hit song "Cry Me A River" was allegedly about his breakup with Britney. Britney seemingly launched a comeback song of her own, titled "Everytime."

"Looking back with that perspective and seeing how heartbreaking it must’ve been for my sister when ‘Cry Me a River’ came out," Jamie Lynn continued."Don’t get me wrong, that’s a way to launch your solo career, but I felt really sad."

"My sister, she wrote that song ‘Everytime,’ and she’s obviously beyond brilliant when it comes to anything creative, and she picked that song out on the piano, and she wrote it, and it still makes me cry because I think about how heartbroken she was," Jamie Lynn continued.

"That was his song, but ‘Everytime’ was her song," she added. "It still breaks my heart to think about that."

Do Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake Still Get Along?

Despite the breakup, things have gotten better between Britney and Justin over the years. In February 2021, Justin posted a lengthy apology to his Instagram page after the latest Britney Spears documentary "Framing Britney Spears" was making headlines.

"I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns and I want to respond," he wrote. "I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism."

"I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed," he added.

"I have not been perfect in navigating all of this throughout my career," he continued. "I know this apology is a first step and doesn’t absolve the past. I want to take accountability for my own missteps in all of this as well as be part of a world that uplifts and supports."
