The legendary Hank Aaron was born on February 5, 1934, in Mobile, Alabama. Nicknamed “The Hammer” or “Hammerin’ Hank,” the baseball right fielder played 23 seasons in Major League Baseball, from 1954 to 1976.
Widely regarded as one of the best baseball players in the history of the sport, he spent 21 seasons playing for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves in the National League and two seasons playing for the Milwaukee Brewers in the American League.
He set a record with 755 career home runs, breaking the MLB record set by Babe Ruth that stood for 33 years. He hit 24 or more home runs every year from 1955 through 1973 and is one of only two players to hit 30 or more home runs in a season at least fifteen times. He was inducted into the National Baseball of Fame in 1982, the first year he became eligible.
Sadly, he passed away in his sleep on January 22, 2021, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was 86 years old. His funeral was held on January 27 and he was buried at South-View Cemetery.
