And just like that… Kim Cattrall’s return to “Sex and the City’s” reboot is still an ongoing topic of conversation.
It’s now become comical how much fanfare there has been over Samantha Jones (Cattrall’s character) returning to the spinoff series, “And Just Like That…”
However, Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker did kind of open Pandora’s box regarding Samantha's return in the season one finale.
Has SJP Had A Change Of Heart Regarding Kim Cattrall?
NOTE: SPOILERS AHEAD
Quick recap of the finale episode.
Fans of the show saw Miranda Hobbes decide to move to Los Angeles with her non-binary partner, Che Diaz. Charlotte York gets Bat-Mitzvah’d and Carrie Bradshaw finally let’s go of Big’s ashes in Paris, France.
However, while in France, Carrie (played by SJP) hits up Samantha Jones, who now lives in London, for a drink.
Samantha obliges by responding, “Tomorrow?,” and then all of a sudden Carrie’s back in New York City.
I’ll say it was a great loophole King and SJP wound into the series; however, I for one want to know what happened during said “drinks.”
That particular moment can’t just be erased from devoted fans' brains. We, the fans, demand to know what happened.
But, as The Blast has reported in the past, Cattrall has basically been blacklisted from ever returning to the show.
Now, SJP is speaking out on her thoughts of possibly cracking open that door to let her back in.
In an interview with Variety, SJP opened up about Cattrall potentially joining a second season.
SJP Gives Her Honest Opinion About Cattrall Returning
The actress said, ““I don’t think I would [be ok with it], because I think there’s just too much public history of feelings on her part that she’s shared.”
SJP continued, “I haven’t participated in or read articles, although people are inclined to let me know.”
As we’ve reported in the past, Cattrall gave a not-so-glamorous review of her co-star and the ‘SATC’ franchise back in 2017 during an interview with Piers Morgan.
When news of a ‘SATC 3’ movie began to make media headlines, it was revealed that it wasn’t getting made due to Cattrall’s “demands” which halted the film.
However, Cattrall told a very different story to Piers.
She revealed she had been saying ‘NO’ to a third film for over a year before SJP went public with her version of the story, which painted a horrible picture of Cattrall.
“Nobody ever picks up the phone and tries to contact you and say, ‘How you doing?’ That would have been the way to handle it,” Cattrall shared, suggesting SJP is not the only co-star to blame for the rift. “This is, it feels like, a toxic relationship.”
"Sarah Jessica Could've Been Nicer."
Cattrall also went on to say, “I think she [Sarah Jessica] could’ve been nicer. I don’t know what her issue is.”
In December 2016, Cattrall recalled saying, “Thank you, but no,” to a third ‘SATC’ movie.
When it came to writing in Samantha Jones into the ‘AJLT’ storyline, SJP feels confident about her non-existent yet existent performance.
“Samantha’s not gone. Samantha’s present, and I think was handled with such respect and elegance,” the actress said. “She wasn’t villainized. She was a human being who had feelings about a relationship, so I think we found a way to address it which was necessary and important for people that loved her.”
Parker did touch on things Cattrall said and her unwillingness to do a third ‘SATC’ movie.
“We didn’t go to Kim for this, you know,” Parker said. “After we didn’t do the movie and the studio couldn’t meet what she wanted to do, we have to hear her and listen to her and what was important to her. It didn’t fit into what was important or needed for us.”
So, is Samantha Jones gone for good? No, doesn’t look like it.
Is Cattrall’s acting contributions to ‘AJLT’ done for good? Yes, very much so!
