You probably remember where you were when Adele's episode of "Carpool Karaoke" with James Corden went viral due to her flawless performance of Nicki Minaj's hit song, "Monster."
Now, more than five years since that legendary moment, Nicki is looking back at the viral clip and paying back the favor to the British songstress.
Adele Dropped Jaws With 'Monster' Performance
Let's take down memory lane! The time was January 2016, and queen Adele took time off her holiday to appear on "The Late Late Show with James Corden." Corden and Adele, both English stars and good pals, then hopped in a ride around London for the segment "Carpool Karaoke."
The "Carpool Karaoke" segment features the host and guest stars driving around and singing their favorite tunes. When Adele came onboard, she sang some famous songs from her albums before unveiling a side that no one had ever seen.
The Tottenham native proved that she was multi-talented and could spit some rhymes as she flawlessly rapped Nicki's "Monster" with swag and flare, not missing a single line.
The episode ranks as the most-watched "Carpool Karaoke" with over 250 million views and over 3.2 million likes, and fans couldn't get enough of Adele. Comments poured under the YouTube clip, praising the Grammy Award winner's rap skills.
One user wrote, "I'm thoroughly entertained by the fact Adele sings like an angel and speaks like a chimney sweep. And she cackles. Fully cackles. It's so funny."
Another gushed, "Adele is perfection. she's super underrated. She has one of the best voices in the world. Loved her for so long."
Nicki Minaj Reacts To Adele's 'Monster' Rap
Now, five years after the historic moment, Nicki is looking back. On Thursday, the Trinidadian-born rapper appeared on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" to promote her new single with Lil Baby, "Do We Have A Problem?"
While chatting with Corden, they revisited Adele's "Carpool Karaoke" episode, and Nicki recalled how seeing the segment made her feel.
"That made my day, my year. I got a thousand phone calls about that one thing," the "Barbie Tingz" rapper gushed. At the request of Corden, Nicki then did her own impression of Adele, channeling her inner North London accent.
Nicki made a hilarious accent as she said, "In order to channel Adele, I sort of have to think like a black lady in London, awright." Fans cackled and cheered the rapper, with Corden praising Nicki for even remembering Adele's hand gestures.
This isn't the first time Nicki had commented on Adele's rap performance. Back in 2016, when the clip aired, Nicki took to Twitter to shower praises on the British star, writing, "Adele is mad ratchet. I can't take her."
Nicki's New Album Is On The Way
During the interview, Nicki dished on her upcoming album after being pestered by Corden about a release date. "Do We Have A Problem?" featuring Lil Baby is Nicki's first project for the year, and fans are anticipating a project.
2018 was the last time Nicki dropped a full-length studio set, and Barbies believe 2022 is the year. However, after much persuasion from Corden, the 39-year-old confessed that an album was coming "soon."
While she didn't give out an actual date, Nicki promised that the release date "is a lot sooner than it's ever been." She assured fans that the project would surely drop this year before summer but didn't give any other specifics.
The "Chun Swae" rapper also discussed motherhood. Nicki added mom to her numerous titles in September 2020 when she welcomed her son, nicknamed Papa Bear, with her husband, Kenneth Petty.
When asked if motherhood had changed her in these past years, Nicki revealed she has become more forgiving and now sees the good in people since becoming a mom.
"When I look at my son, I'm reminded that I'm so blessed," Nicki mentioned. The rapper then dished on how Papa Bear is doing at one and a half years old, saying his favorite phrase as the moment is "What are you doing?"
The doting mother revealed that Papa Bear is at that age where he imitates everything he hears, and sometimes the toddler repeats some naughty things from his parents.
