Billie Eilish Goes Back To Black Because, 'She's Back'

After having experimented with plenty of hair colors in 2021, and having kick-started a whole "porn fried my brain" controversy, Billie Eilish is embracing her roots and going black on Instagram. And by that, we mean hair roots, because that's what her signature look has been, black.
That said, this time, the signature green roots are missing and for now, Eilish is only sporting black hair with an edgy cut with bangs, or should we say fringes, and is sporting a back mask to match her look. Right before the move to black, Eilish sported chocolate brown locks so it seemed her transition from blonde to goth is now complete.
Billie Eilish Is A Hair Chameleon
Eilish's jet black hair, a full fringe, and that shaggy wolf cut remind her fans of her early days, the time she burst onto the music scene with black hair but acid green roots. Since then, Eilish has been experimenting with her looks.
Her transformation to a curly-haired blonde, on the Vogue cover, came as a shock to many of her fans, She explained it to Elle magazine in an interview, saying she dyed her hair blonde because she was tired of acid green. “I couldn’t go anywhere with that hair because it was so obviously me. I wanted anonymity.”
Going blonde meant her signature look was gone and Eilish felt free. She continued saying, “I went to a park with a friend, and I was like, ‘No, I can’t take off my hood!’ I was terrified of the paparazzi and these stalkers I’ve had. But my friend was like, ‘Don’t worry: You’re okay. Nothing’s gonna happen.’ And I took my hood off, and I felt like a new person.”
She also feels that just like everyone, her hair does not "define" her, it's just her experimenting with different looks, wanting to do what she likes.
Said the "Bad Guy" singer, "The other day, I posted a video from when I had green hair, and I saw people go, ‘I miss this Billie, the green-haired Billie.' I’m still the same person. I’m not just different Barbies with different heads.”
Eilish's Different Looks & Controversy
This is not the first time the pop star has switched hair colors. Before this, she wore her hair slightly longer, in a lovely chocolate brown shade, and was also briefly, a redhead. The platinum blonde shag haircut is not history but Eilish has worn her hair black before as well before she became known for her acid green roots.
She has also worn her hair in a teal shade as well as carried them in a blue-gray shade in 2018. The pop star previously switched between all-over ink black and her signature black with neon green roots. She also experimented with a bright teal color and a blue-gray style in 2018.
She recently skirted controversy when she spoke about how watching porn destroyed her brain. Last year in December. Eilish appeared on The Howard Stern Show on Sirius XM radio just before her 20th birthday and spoke rather candidly. Said the singer, "I think porn is a disgrace. I used to watch a lot of porn, to be honest. I started watching porn when I was, like, 11," because it helped her feel cool and be part of "one of the guys."
She added, "I think it really destroyed my brain and I feel incredibly devastated that I was exposed to so much porn." She also said that she suffered nightmares because some of what she saw was violent and abusive, prompting some to wonder, what were her parents doing while she was watching porn?
Fans Love Billie Eilish In Black
Eilish's black-hair debut has garnered more than 8 million likes, including one from Justin Bieber, with it coming just days before the kickoff of her "Happier Than Ever, The World Tour" in New Orleans on Thursday.
Most of her fans loved her "back to black" and "black hair supremacy" look, although there was a snarky comment in there as well that said, "It's giving that really short mean lady [vibe] from The Incredibles. Tell me I'm not the only one." Some definitely agreed, naming the character as well, Edna Mode.
Meanwhile, Eilish is all set to headline the Coachella music festival in April alongside Harry Styles and Kanye West, black hair and all, so for her, it's probably "hair today, gone tomorrow."
Eilish kept her look low-key with natural, brushed-up brows, a protective face mask in black, and a signature black hoodie. Let's see what her next look brings.
