Singer Harry Styles is celebrating his 28th birthday today!
Harry Edward Styles was born on February 1, 1994, in Redditch, Worcestershire, England. His singing career first began when he appeared as a solo contestant on the British music competition "The X Factor."
Although he was eliminated early on in the competition, he came back to "The X Factor" with the band One Direction, which went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.
Harry Styles Embarks On A Successful Solo Career
After the band went their separate ways, Styles released his self-titled debut solo album in 2017. It debuted in the number one spot in the U.S. and the U.K. and became one of the world's top-ten best-selling albums that year. The song "Signs of the Times" appeared in the number one spot on the U.K. singles chart.
2017 was a big year for Styles. Not only did his album open to critical acclaim, but he also made his acting debut in Christopher Nolan's 2017 war film "Dunkirk."
In 2019, Styles released his second album, "Fine Line" which topped the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The album generated the biggest first-week sales by an English male artist in history and was listed in Rolling Stone's list of "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" the following year. The fourth single from the album, "Watermelon Sugar," topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Styles has received many accolades for his work in the entertainment industry, including a Grammy Award, an American Music Award, two Brit Awards, and an Ivor Novello Award. He's also known for his eccentric fashion style and was the first man to appear solo on the cover of Vogue magazine.

‘Watermelon Sugar’
This music video, which debuted on May 18, 2020, opened with a disclaimer that reads “This video is dedicated to touching.”
“He’s gonna keep making fruits-related things until we can’t eat a fruit without thinking about him, mark my words,” one fan wrote.
“Wait so you're telling me this song ISN'T about happily eating watermelon with your friends at the beach?” another joked.
“When I found out what "cake by the ocean" was about, I was shocked!!” another fan commented. “So I'm glad there's still wholesome artists out there like Harry singing songs about eating food without nasty hidden meanings, Thank you Harry!”
“Harry's that guy who buys 30 watermelons on those math equations,” another joked.
‘Sign of the Times’
This video, which dropped on May 8, 2017, is widely regarded as one of Harry Styles’ best songs, even if it’s a far cry from the upbeat vibes of “Watermelon Sugar.”
“If this is not playing when the world is ending I don't want it,” one fan joked.
“As someone that doesn't usually like pop music, this should have been celebrated like the Beatles,” another commented. “This is a rare gem in popular music. Catchy, popular, and moving is a rarity, and this song manages to do so in a world of simple sugars being everything.”
“Love this song , best ever for me , sounds so haunting but true,” another wrote.
‘Adore You’
Released just before the pandemic began in January 2020, fans love the music video of “Adore You.” In the video, Styles rescues a fish and tries to nurse it back to health, only to watch it become bigger and bigger.
“I don't get why people have commented like if he wrote the song about the fish,” one fan wrote. “It is just a sweet love song. And he is brilliant for not making the video about a man or a woman.”
“It's a great video!” another fan said. “The music is so good. The music & lyrics are so catchy. Harry has a nice voice. The high notes are amazing!”
“I feel like I watched an entire movie in only three minutes,” another said.
“I feel like the message behind the video is that Harry would do anything for someone but after some time they outgrow each other without him realizing,” another person said. “He keeps trying to find solutions to make it work but at one point they both come to the conclusion that it's better to each go their own way.”
Whatever meaning fans take out of the song, there is one thing that fans can agree on: wishing Harry Styles a happy 28th birthday!
