The singer and drummer for the rock band Genesis was born on January 30, 1951, in London, England.

Phil Collins was the drummer and singer of the rock band Genesis from 1970 to 1996. In 1981, Collins struck out on a solo career that produced seven number-one hits in the United States and three in the U.K.
Some of his most successful singles include “In The Air Tonight,” “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now),” “Sussudio,” and “Another Day in Paradise.” Although he has created many popular songs throughout the years, he is probably best known for the song “You’ll Be in My Heart” for the Disney animated film “Tarzan” in 1999, which earned him an Oscar for Best Original Song.
Collins is one of the world's best-selling artists and has sold over 150 million records worldwide. He has produced eight studio albums and has won eight Grammy Awards, six Brit Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, one Academy Award, and a Disney Legend Award. He has also won six Ivor Novello Awards from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors, including the International Achievement Award.
In 1999, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2003, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2010, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis. He was also entered into the “Modern Drummer” Hall of Fame in 2012 and the “Classic Drummer” Hall of Fame in 2013.
