Singer Elton John has canceled two concerts due to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
John has been in the middle of a major tour in the United States and has been taking precautions to make sure that he and his crew are safe while performing. Unfortunately, although he did test positive for the virus, he is doing well and said that he only has “mild” symptoms.
Elton John Issues Statement To Instagram: 'I'm So Sorry To Anyone Who's Been Inconvienced'
In his Instagram stories, John released a message to his fans to inform them of the cancelation.
“Hi everyone, wanted to send a message to let you know that I have contracted COVID so have had to reschedule my shows in Dallas,” he explained.
“If you have tickets, you’ll be contacted with the new dates really soon,” he added. “It’s always a massive disappointment to move shows and I’m so sorry to anyone who’s been inconvenienced by this but I want to keep myself and my team safe.”
“Fortunately, I’m fully vaccinated and boosted and my symptoms are mild so I’m fully expecting to be able to make the Arkansas shows this weekend,” he added.
He wrapped up the message saying, “As always, thank you for all your love and support and I can’t wait to see you all soon!”
Fans Want To Know If Elton John Is Getting Support From Ed Sheeran!
Although Elton John is currently touring in the United States, fans want to know if John is getting support from fellow British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. When Sheeran tested positive for COVID-19 back in October, Sheeran revealed that Elton John called him literally every day.
“He has literally rung me every day,” Sheeran said in an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music.
Sheeran continued, "I am feeding [my daughter] Lyra porridge in the morning and it's, 'Say hi to Elton.' There's not many people in my life like that and I really, really appreciate him."
That’s not the only time that John had reached out to Sheeran to provide support. Last March, Sheeran’s close friend and mentor, Michael Gudinski, passed away.
“When Michael passed away, [Elton] rang me to see how I was and I really wasn’t good,” he shared.
Elton John & Ed Sheeran Collaborate On The Hit ‘Merry Christmas’
Elton John and Ed Sheeran are such good friends that they even collaborated on a Christmas song together last year!
In a teaser promoting the song, Ed Sheeran appeared at John’s door to drop him a long message:
“Hello. Last Christmas, I received a call from my mate Elton John and he told me we should do a ‘Christmas Song’ and I replied, ‘Yeah, maybe in 2022.’ But I actually wrote the chorus that day and here we are. Our Christmas song ‘Merry Christmas’ is out this Friday. Go pre-order or pre-save it now. It has sleigh bells. A lot of them…”
Elton John & Ed Sheeran Donate 'Merry Christmas' Proceeds To Charity!
In the post, Sheeran revealed that “All UK profits from this year’s Christmas period will go to the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation (www.essmf.com) and the Elton John AIDS Foundation (@ejaf).”
The Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation was started by the “Shape of You” singer in 2019 to provide upcoming artists aged 18 and under with “small but hopefully used grants” to help them launch a music career. The foundation currently only accepts applicants from the Suffolk area, where Sheeran started his own music career, but he has high hopes that they'll be able to branch out and support other areas with additional funding.
The Elton John AIDS Foundation was established in 1992 in the United States and expanded into the United Kingdom in 1993. The nonprofit organization “supports innovative HIV prevention, education programs, direct care, and support services to people living with HIV.”
