Even the President-Elect of Chile is supporting Taylor Swift!

Yesterday afternoon, Damon Albarn of “The Gorillaz” and “Blur” criticized the “Love Story” singer in a new interview with The Los Angeles Times while promoting his new album “The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows.”

During the interview, Albarn got to talking about songwriters. Although he’s apparently a big fan of “Happier Than Ever” singer Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas, he put Taylor Swift on blast when he accused her of not writing her own songs.

“That doesn’t count,” he said. “I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing.”

“I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes,” he added. “Doesn’t mean that the outcome can’t be really great.”

Taylor Swift: ‘I Write ALL OF My Own Songs’

Almost immediately, Taylor Swift retweeted the article to let her fans know that she does, indeed, write all of her own songs, and has from the very start of her career.

“@DamonAlbarn I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this,” she wrote. “I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f—ed up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.”

She followed it up by writing, “PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering.”

Producer Jack Antonoff, who worked with Swift to create her last two studios albums – “folklore” and “evermore” – also took to Twitter to put Albarn on blast.

“i’ve never met damon albarn and he’s never been to my studio but apparently he knows more than the rest of us about all those songs taylor writes and brings in. herb,” he wrote.

He later added, “if you were there … cool … go off. If not … maybe … shut the f--- up?”

Antonoff was far from the only one who came to Swift’s defense!

President-Elect Of Chile Backs Taylor Swift In Damon Albarn Feud!

It should be noted that Sebastián Piñera is the current President of Chile. Former student leader Gabriel Boric won the 2021 presidential election held last December and is set to assume office on March 11, 2022.

Boric is not only the youngest president in Chile’s history and the second-youngest state leader in the world, but he also scored the highest number of votes in any presidential election in Chile’s history.

The 35-year-old politician hopped into the feud to share some support of his own.

“Here in Chile you have a huge group of supporters who knows that you write you own songs from the heart,” he commented. “Dont take seriously guys that need to insult or lie to get attention. Hugs from the south Taylor.”

She proved to be one of the best I’ve ever worked with. Selfless, generous, insightful, nuanced - with a CLEAR understanding of the assignment.”

Damon Albarn Apologizes, Fans Aren't Buying It!

For what it's worth, Damon Albarn did apologize later on, but it wasn't enough to stop the  “Bad Blood” he created with Swift’s fans.

“I totally agree with you,” he tweeted. “i had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait. I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand. – Damon.”

However, fans didn’t actually feel like the apology was sincere.

“Weird that you say you apologize in this tweet yet there remains no statement of ‘I’m sorry,’” one fan commented. “You are also blame shifting by stating it was ‘reduced to clickbait.’ The statement about Taylor was a direct quote from YOU. This is an embarrassing response on your part. Shame on you.”

“What part of this was reduced to clickbait?” asked comedian Alex Goldschmidt. “You said her songwriter doesn’t count as songwriting and then compared her to another female artist with a completely different style. Don’t gaslight and throw someone else under the bus because you never thought she’d call you out.”
