The fashion world and entertainment industry are mourning the devastating loss of renowned fashion designer Thierry Mugler.

Many have taken to social media to honor the legacy he left behind.

Thierry Mugler Dead At 73

On Sunday, news broke that the French fashion powerhouse suddenly passed away at 73. Mugler's team shared the sad news on Instagram via a statement that read, "#RIP We are devastated to announce the passing of Mr Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday, January 23rd 2022. May his soul Rest In Peace."

Alongside the caption was a blank black photo indicating their immense loss. The announcement didn't reveal further details about the circumstances surrounding Mugler's death, but he was not known to be battling any ailment in the final years of his life.

Mugler, who came onto the fashion scenes in the late '70s, was an influential designer with a trademark style of cinch-waisted silhouettes and glamorous shoulders. He often worked with drag queens and trans models and was reportedly openly gay for most of his life.

Mugler diversified from fashion in the '90s, branching into perfumes and excelling at it. He retired officially from the industry in 2003 but continued creating pieces until his final breath.

The Strasbourg native was responsible for dressing numerous A-listers over the decades, such as Sharon Stone, Diana Ross, Madonna, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Bella Hadid, David Bowie, Cindy Crawford, Katy Perry, Tyra Banks, and many more.

However, one of his most notable recent works was his design for Kim Kardashian for the 2019 Met Gala ceremony. Despite being knee-deep in a 16-year-retirement, Mugler proved he was indeed a genius with the magical work of art.

As you might remember, Kim made jaws drop, flaunting a super-cinched waistline in a latex gown with beaded diamonds that created an illusion that she was dripping wet. The phenomenal nude dress reportedly took eight months to make.

Tributes Pour In For Mugler

Following the news of his demise, many stars have taken to social media to remember him. Beyoncé shared a heartwarming throwback photo of the late designer, leading the condolences.

The black-and-white image shared on Beyoncé's website showed Mugler wearing a leather waistcoat that flaunted his arm tattoo in his younger days. Alongside the picture, she wrote a simple message of Rest In Peace.

Queen B and Mugler collaborated in the late 2000s to design costumes for her alter ego, Sasha Fierce, while on tour. Beyoncé became impressed with his work after seeing his Superheroes" exhibition at the Costume's Institute in 2008.

Russian model Irina Shayk also paid tribute to Mugler with a touching post on Instagram. The "Hercules" star shared several tear-jerking photos of her and the iconic designer at the "Thierry Mugler: Couturissime" opening party in Paris, held in September 2021.

Shayk was one of the models at the exhibition who wore outfits from Mugler's '90s archives and collections. Alongside the images, the model wrote, "Gone to soon ??? God of fashion .. a rarely REAL, kindness , sweetest .. u ll be always missed by your Russian… ???? @manfredthierrymugler ?"

Shayk and Muger shared a bond that transcended their working relationship. During the exhibition, the late designer praised Shayk for her presence with touching words that read, "My jewel Irina, thank you to bring joy and beauty to this world. Very happy to be your « partner in crime » on that level. Siberian blue diamonds are the strongest and purest ever !!! Digging into your eyes is a fascinating living dream. I love you» - Manfred."

Mugler Was' A Defining Force In Fashion'

Kourtney Kardashian took to her Instagram story to share a photo of the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan wearing black and white ensembles from Mugler alongside a caption that read, "ALL IN MUGLER ?"

Actress Tracee Ellis Ross shared a throwback video of her walking the runway in Mugler alongside her mother, Diana Ross. The. "Blackish" actress recalled trying to break into the modeling world and facing difficulties until the designer came to her rescue.

She recalled that her mother received a call from Mugler, and they struck a deal to allow her to walk the runway. Tracee mentioned that she walked alongside her mom in 1991 and received another call from Mugler the following year, this time allowing her to walk alone.

She praised the designer's impressive legacy, writing, "Thierry Mugler was a defining force in fashion. Even his archive collection today seems futuristic. He was a true dreamer….he designed for a future where women were in charge and on top."

Tracee described Mugler as "joyous and beautiful" and thanked him for the privilege to take part in his world.
