The former longtime couple is moving on after nearly 17 years together.
According to an industry source, Jason Momoa, 42, and Lisa Bonet, 54, "want to explore other things" following their split. However, they still care "deeply about each other."
Going Their Separate Ways
Another source told People that the "Aquaman" star and the "Angel Heart" actress "have been doing things separately for quite a while." Meanwhile, they only announced their split last week in a joint statement after almost two decades together and five years of marriage.
"They were a great couple with a lot of love and respect for each other, but people change and goals change and they weren't the same together anymore," the insider added.
As per the source, Momoa has been very busy with work, which apparently caused the split, then he got sick with COVID-19.
The insider said, "They have grown apart and the pandemic capped it."
Living Separately Took A Toll On Their Relationship
The source said that "it's been difficult for them to be apart," and that the distance took a toll on their relationship.
"For some people, it might strengthen their marriage. For Lisa and Jason's marriage, being apart has been a disaster," the insider said.
A source close to the actress said that the former couple "were amazing for years, until they no longer were," adding, "They have grown apart because of different focuses."
Momoa and Bonet's career paths have taken them in different directions. A source said that the "Dune" star "was struggling to find work. Now his career is booming. And he wants to keep working as much as he can."
Meanwhile, Zoë Kravitz's mom "has had no interest in joining" her husband "on every location," the insider added as "She enjoys her life in L.A."
A Peaceful Split
Unlike other Hollywood breakups, Momoa and Bonet's split is peaceful and amicable as they are both "mature" and "will keep peace" for the sake of their two children --- son Nakoa-Wolf, 13, and daughter Lola, 14.
"It's not going to be some scandalous divorce where they trash talk each other," the source noted. "They are both very spiritual and believe in a higher power."
During her chat with her longtime friend, Marisa Tomei for Interview Magazine, Bonet said she was entering a "river of uncertainty" ahead of her split with Momoa. Tomei asked her girlfriend what was currently "calling" her in life.
"Definitely learning how to be authentically me, learning to be new, and following this invitation from the universe to step into this river of uncertainty," Bonet answered. "We’ve eliminated all this extra noise, and now it’s time to grow our roots deeper into our own values."
Foreshadowing The Breakup
The "High Fidelity" star also mentioned the current state of the world, which caused people a lot of hardships. That said, she was probably hinting at her current love life.
"The revolution is definitely here and we’re all feeling the squeeze. If you aren’t, you’re in total denial, and the more you resist, the more you will suffer," Bonnet said. "Everything is crumbling out there. The personal work is understanding where empire and those archetypes live within us. The revolution is on the inside, and learning to be new in this new world."
Matching Notes
As The Blast reported, the pair announced their separation on Wednesday, January 12, through a joint statement on Instagram, which they both deleted.
"We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding ~and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring And so~ We share our Family news~ That we are parting ways in marriage," the statement, which was shared on the Aquaman star's social media, read. "We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy ~ But so that~ as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty," the statement continued. "The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other ~to be who we are learning to become…"
They added that their "devotion unwavering to this sacred life & our Children, teaching our Children what’s possible ~ Living the Prayer."
Momoa and Bonet had been dating since 2005, and they married in October 2017.
