Actress Ariana DeBose made her first appearance as host of “Saturday Night Live” last week.
DeBose became an Internet sensation after she won a Golden Globe for her role as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s film adaption “West Side Story,” which hit theaters late last year.
Fans absolutely loved her opening monologue, which included a musical performance with assistance from “SNL” alum Kate McKinnon.
Most fans absolutely loved DeBose’s opening monologue and had their fingers crossed that she would be invited back to host in the near future.
“Confidence all the way through the roof,” one fan wrote. “What a personality. 2-time host in the same season coming right up.”
“I knew Ariana has a beautiful voice but man was I not prepared !” another fan wrote. “Kate gave me goose bumps… What a voice ! Excellent monologue girls.”
However, there was one troll that was absolutely not having it.
Troll Criticizes Ariana DeBose’s Opening Monologue
Although most fans were absolutely in love with DeBose’s opening monologue, one troll criticized her on an Instagram post shared by “SNL” that contained a video of DeBose’s monologue.
During the opening monologue, DeBose said, “I’m so honored to be here tonight. Wow, 2020 has already been an exciting year.”
The troll took issue with DeBose’s small slip, writing, “She knows it’s 2022 not 2020 right????”
“You try hosting SNL, reading cue cards with slight dyslexia and then get back to me brah,” DeBose responded.
Writer Julissa Natzely Arce Raya jumped into the conversation to say, “I thought it was part of the joke! Because you know it’s like 2020 all over again!”
“Forget the haters!” she continued. “You were amazing!!!!”
“Maybe get someone who isn’t on level with Joe Biden at reading since that’s a qualification to acting… reading lines,” the troll added, but DeBose wasn’t having it.
“Cool. You’re a troll. Bye,” she wrote.
After fending off the troll, DeBose took to her own Instagram account to talk about how appearing on “Saturday Night Live” was “one of the craziest weeks” of her life so far.
