On January 17, 2022, actress Betty White was expecting to celebrate her 100th birthday.
Unfortunately, she passed away on December 31 - New Year's Eve - at the age of 99. Betty White had suffered a stroke days before her death. Although she was "awake and alert" after the stroke, she passed away from a cerebrovascular accident, which causes a loss of blood flow to part of the brain, leading to brain tissue damage. She was believed to have passed peacefully in her sleep.
On Betty White’s birthday, fans have decided to do some good in the late actress’ name. Betty White was renowned for her love of animals and secretly rescued animals during Hurricane Katrina. In her honor, fans have taken up her cause and created the #BettyWhiteChallenge.
The Betty White Challenge reads: “On Betty White’s birthday, January 17th, everyone should pick a local rescue or animal shelter in your area and donate just $5 in Betty White’s name. Make her 100th birthday the moment she deserves.”
There are a ton of animal rescue organizations that could use a donation. Here are just a few of the many, many organizations that would appreciate your donation for the Betty White Challenge!

Are you Ready for the Betty White Challenge tomorrow? Consider supporting @TheAnimalPad where one of our dog-loving employees volunteers. Not all dogs are as lucky as this guy with his own home with a home battery (that's not his hat despite what he tells you).#sandiego #sddogs pic.twitter.com/k5EW34fy3x
