As fans may recall, hundreds of doctors, nurses, medical professionals, scientists, and teachers all signed an open letter asking Spotify to stop “mass-misinformation events” like the podcast hosted by Joe Rogan.
“The Joe Rogan Experience” host has been accused of spreading misinformation about COVID-19, including in a recent episode with Dr. Robert Malone. Malone had previously been permanently suspended from Twitter due to spreading COVID-19 misinformation.
In the letter, the medical professionals are asking Spotify to “establish a clear and public policy to moderate misinformation on its platform” and point to Rogan’s history of “broadcasting misinformation, particularly regarding the COVID-19 pandemic” as a reason for Spotify to step in.
Although the news has been broadcast through several media outlets, Spotify has declined to make a statement about moderating COVID-19 misinformation on its platform. Although some were critical of Spotify’s lack of a response, other fans celebrated it.
#ThankYouJoeRogan and #ThankYouSpotify Start Trending
We would be in very serious trouble right now without Joe Rogan and Spotify’s courage. Let’s make #ThanksJoeRogan and #ThankYouSpotify trend. Don’t cut and paste. And consider doing them in separate tweets. Let’s let’em know we appreciate them.

On Saturday morning, podcast host and author Bret Weinstein, tweeted, “We would be in very serious trouble right now without Joe Rogan and Spotify’s courage. Let’s make #ThanksJoeRogan and #ThankYouSpotify trend. Don’t cut and paste. And consider doing them in separate tweets. Let’s let’em know we appreciate them.”
He added, “Please Retweet this, and each other’s tweets so it gets widely seen. That’s the only way to reveal how many of us feal this way.”
Although it started trending, one fan pointed out that “If Joe Rogan is spreading information as fact without evidence and he still calls it factual, that is lying. Aka spreading misinformation. We’re entitled to our opinions, but not our own facts.”
Although it started trending, opponents decided to use the hashtag as a way to mock Rogan’s supporters, leading to general confusion over whether or not the “thank you” was supposed to be authentic or sarcastic to those hopping on Twitter later in the day.
