Actor Orlando Bloom is celebrating his 45th birthday today!

The English actor was born Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Copeland Bloom in Canterbury, United Kingdom. Although he's been in many films, his breakthrough came through the character Legolas in "The Lord of the Rings" film series. He later reprised his role as Legolas when he appeared in "The Hobbit" trilogy. He's also known as Will Turner from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series.

In addition to his film roles, Bloom was also named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2009 and received the BAFTA Britannia Humanitarian Award in 2015 for his public service.

In a 2004 poll created by the BBC, Bloom was named the 12th most influential person in the United Kingdom and has been presented with an honorary degree from the University of Kent at Canterbury Cathedral, in his hometown. He was also inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 2, 2014.

Bloom was named after 16th century English composer Orlando Gibbons and has an older sister named Samantha. When he was growing up, he believed that his father was his mother's husband, anti-apartheid novelist Harry Bloom, who passed away in 1981 when Bloom was only four years old.

However, his mother later revealed that his father was actually a family friend, ColinStone, who was the principal of the Concorde International language school, who later became Bloom's legal guardian!

His mother, SoniaCopeland, was actually born in India. She is actually a cousin of photographer SebastianCopeland. Many fans might not know that Bloom is actually dyslexic and was encouraged by his mother to take art and drama classes.

He joined the National Youth Theatre and eventually earned a scholarship to study at the British American Drama Academy. He made a few minor television and film appearances before enrolling in the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London to study acting.

From 2003 to 2006, Bloom had an on-and-off-again relationship with actress Kate Bosworth.

He later started dating model Miranda Kerr in 2007 and they became engaged in June 2010. They were married in July 2010, and Kerr gave birth to their son in January 2011. Bloom and Kerr separated at the beginning of 2013 and ended their marriage by the end of the year.

In January 2016, Bloom started dating "I Kissed A Girl" singer Katy Perry, but they called it quits by February 2017. However, they got together the following year and became engaged the year after that, in February 2019. Perry gave birth to Bloom's first daughter on August 26, 2020.

Although Bloom is known for his film roles, he does have a few TV credits to his name as well.

His first film role was in the 1997 film "Wilde." He then appeared in "Black Hawk Down" in 2001, along with "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring." He appeared in the sequel, "The Two Towers" the following year.

In 2003, he wrapped up his time as Legolas in "The Return of the King" and also starred in "Ned Kelly" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."

In 2004, he appeared in "The Calcium Kid," "Haven," and "Troy." In 2005, he appeared in "Kingdom of Heaven" and "Elizabeth Town" before moving onto "Love and Other Disasters," "The Armenian Genocide," and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" in 2006.

In 2007, he thought he finished up his time as Will Turn in "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" before narrating the documentary "Everest: A Climb For Peace" later that year.

He appeared in several films from 2009 to 2011, including "New York, I Love You," "Main Street," "The Good Doctor," and "The Three Musketeers." He appeared in four films in 2014, including "Zulu," "The Bling Ring," "Romeo and Juliet," and "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug."

He reprised his role as Legolas in "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" to finish out "The Hobbit" trilogy and made a brief cameo appearance as Will Turner in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" in 2017.

In 2020, he appeared in "The Outpost" and his last film role was "Needle in a Timestack" in 2021.

Bloom first got his start on the television show "Casualty." He appeared in several episodes from 1994 to 1996.

He appeared in episodes of "Midsomer Murders," "Extras," LA Phil Live," "Easy," "Tour de Pharmacy," and "Stairway to Stardom" from 2000 to 2017.

Starting in 2019, he has led the cast as Rycroft Philostrate in "Carnival," in which he also serves as executive producer.
