“Happy birthday naya, I hope cory threw you a party for your 35th and you take care of each other,” another “Glee” fan wrote.
Naya’s former co-star, Cory Monteith, also tragically died entirely too soon. The Canadian star died on July 13, 2013 of a toxic combination of alcohol and heroin.
Naya disappeared on July 8, 2020. News of her disappearance rocked the world.
The actress tragically drowned in Lake Piru while taking her son, Josey Dorsey, out for a boat ride.
She went to take a swim in the water, but something went horribly wrong and Naya drowned after getting her son to safety. Her death was ruled an accidental drowning.
Naya's Sister & Ex-Husband Are Taking Care Of Josey
In June, her father spoke out about his daughter just before the year anniversary of her passing.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Naya’s father, George Rivera, gave an update on her son.
While speaking to E.T. host Kevin Fraser, George discussed how his family is healing after Naya’s death.
He said Josey asks about his mom frequently.
"Tough situation, especially because he was there -- it's not like you're talking about a ghost that's floating around, right? He's got memories as well, but boy is he coming around, right? Really strong kid," George told E.T.
At the time, George gave credit to Naya’s ex-husband and Josey’s father, Ryan Dorsey, and her sister Nickayla Rivera, for helping the little boy navigate life and answer questions about his late mother.
George tells the outlet, “Nickayla and Ryan are doing a really great job.”
When it comes to talking about Naya and answering Josey’s questions, her father said, “We handle him and we talk to him just like he's a 5-year-old going on six. It's no different but when he wants to talk about his mother, we talk about his mother, in conversation. He's growing up and handling it really well."
