Dua Lipa could very well be considered a triple threat today. Her music has dominated the music charts, she has actually hosted various brand specials playing herself, and her modeling accolades, spanning both magazine covers and other photo shoots have given her a powerful influence internationally.
As a pop-culture icon, her rise to fame over the last 5 years is impeccable, cementing her sensationally sexy public image and her frequent interviews have given her a reputation as a likable, grounded person. Her new music video “We’re Good”, just released, and fans are buzzing about it!
‘Future Nostalgia’
Her music videos are often wholly unique, and the branding that she has managed to achieve in her music videos is noticeable. Accomplishing more than incorporating a creative outfit or catchy tune, many of her videos take inspiration from the past, giving her videos a retro feel that really works.
The success of her videos can also be attributed to her classical, regal appearance. Not every girl can manage the 1900s, Victorian, or otherwise classical appearances that many consider prestigious… But Dua manages the looks with ingenious flair.
Sinking Ship, Heightened Success
Her new music video is currently at 12# on YouTube’s Trending charts and it now has almost 2 million videos after only 14 hours since it went live.
Many of her fans praised the video for her creativity and gorgeous appearances. Not until the end does the viewer realize where she is actually singing, nor does anyone truly understand the gravity of the situation until the closing of the last shots. The focus upon the lobsters in the video give a playful vibe that many viewers especially liked.
‘Queen Of Lobsters’
Here are but a small number of the comments that were left on Dua’s Instagram post sharing a clip of the music video:
“QUEEN OF LOBSTERS! ?” (Commentator) “So cool D! Congrats ❤️” (Commentator) “Can we please talk about how stunning you look?” (Commentator) “GIRLLLLLL YOU ARE TAKING THE WORLD” (Commentator) “thank thank you so so much for being so invested in your work” (Commentator) “I don’t think you understand….I’m OBSESSED already! You really said FUTURE NOSTALGIA!!! ❤️❤️❤️” (Commentator) “STRAIGHT UP 1910 VIBES” (Commentator)
‘Influences’
As it so happens, her title is very much a reflection of the kind of music she wanted to create in her album, “Future Nostalgia”. Retro sounds combined with modern sounds is the name of the game, though originally Dua wasn’t sure if the name was too on the nose or not.
“I’d already started working on the record and I knew I wanted it to reflect my childhood influences, but I hadn’t quite figured out what direction I wanted to go,” she recalls.
“I had my headphones in and was out walking to clear my head, when I was like, ‘Oh, I know, Future Nostalgia could work.’
“At first I worried it was too on the nose, too literal, but by the time I’d gone back to my hotel, I’d solidified it in my head.”
