The Reverend Al Sharpton has filed for divorce after being separated from his wife for the past 15 years.
According to multiple reports, the legendary civil rights activist filed the legal documents in a New York court, asking to officially end his marriage of 24 years.
The 66-year-old reverend filed for a ‘contested divorce’ but it’s unclear which part of the split may be unresolved. The National Action Network founder and his estranged wife, Kathy Jordan Sharpton share two daughters together — Dominique and Ashley.

As we said, the split is old news, and the famous MSNBC host has been frequently spotted with his girlfriend, Aisha McShaw near his NYC condo.
Again, the famous reverend took almost 17 years to file legal documents to end his marriage from the time of the formal separation. It’s unclear why this would be necessary. In most cases, one of the parties is considering getting married to another person — or whatever private settlement or agreement the ex-couple has in place is now not agreeable.

At this point, Al Sharpton nor his estranged wife has made a statement regarding the legal filing. But, now that the case is in the court system — the couple will face a judge and have to agree on terms of a settlement in a more formal environment.
BTW — The ex-couple’s daughters are both adults, so there is no issue of child support in this case. But, their estate and how it is split up maybe something that is being discussed or formalized.
We are guessing this isn’t the end of this story.
