Turns out that Kanye West has some pretty unexpected fans!
Avenged Sevenfold is a heavy metal band that was formed in Huntington Beach, California, in 1999. The band is hard at work on their eighth studio album, which was apparently largely influenced by the work of Kanye West.
In an interview with Metal Hammer, lead singer M. Shadows revealed that the new album is “very influenced by Kanye West.”
Avenged Sevenfold Reveals New Music Is Inspired By Kanye West
The lead singer revealed that there were “so many influences” when it came to making their new album, but he named Kanye West as the primary one.
“We’re very influenced by Kanye West,” Shadows said. “The thing about Kanye is that he is pulling from such great soul music.”
“I didn’t grow up with that stuff,” Shadows added. “My dad listened to Boston and Alice Cooper. I didn’t get that taste of Black music and old soul.”
“So, diving deep into jazz musicians… we’re not trying to do a jazz record, but the chord changes and progressions are so eye-opening to us,” he added.
Shadows Admits That New Music Has Been Delayed By The Pandemic
Shadows also admitted that the pandemic has caused delays, but gave fans a rough timeline as to when they could expect new music.
“In January, we’re going in to finish the strings on the record,” he explained. “The record’s been recorded for a year, but we haven’t been able to put the real strings on it because we couldn’t fly out to Prague.”
“When an orchestra has to social distance and they aren’t sitting next to each other, they can get out of tune, and we have just finally got to a place where we can use this 70-piece orchestra as we intended,” he added. “We finish the record in February, mix it in March.”
Some Fans Are Excited… Other Fans? Not So Much!
Fans had admittedly mixed reactions to the news.
I heart @kanyewest!” one fan tweeted. “He is not only an influential rapper, he is influencing all music. He’s going to be right up there w/Michael Jackson, Prince, Aretha Franklin,& Bob Dylan.”
“Hopefully it’s pre-Kardashian Kanye because that’s where the brilliance was,” said another.

Avenged Sevenfold, often abbreviated as A7X, currently contains band members M. Shadows as lead vocalist, Synyster Gates as lead guitarist and backing vocalist, Zacky Vengeance as rhythm guitarist, and backing vocalist, Johnny Christ as bassist and backing vocalist, and Brooks Wackerman as the band’s drummer.
All but Wackerman are original members of the group. The band’s original drummer, The Rev, also known as Reverend Tholomew Plague, passed away on December 28, 2009. After he was found unresponsive in his home in Huntington Beach, a toxicology report later revealed that he had died from a drug overdose.
Shortly after his death, the band dedicated their fifth studio album, “Nightmare,” to the late drummer, as well as several songs which included “So Far Away” and “Fiction,” which The Rev had written prior to his death.
In an interview with Hard Drive Radio, Shadows explained that “The eeriest thing about it [the album] is there is a song on the album called ‘Fiction’ [a nickname the Rev gave himself] which started out with the title ‘Death.’ And it was the last song The Rev wrote for the album, and when he handed it in, he said, ‘That’s it, that’s the last song for this record.’ And then, three days later, he died.”

The band’s debut album “Sounding the Seventh Trumpet” started with a metalcore sound that continued into the second album, “Waking the Fallen.” The band’s style shifted into a mix between heavy metal and hard rock for their third album, “City of Evil.”
Their fourth album, “Avenged Sevenfold,” continued to be a success. “Nightmare” was their fifth album, and their first album to debut on the top spot of the Billboard 200 in 2010. The band’s sixth studio album, “Hail to the King,” came out in 2013 and the band surprised fans by dropping “The Stage” on October 28, 2016. It marked the band’s first conceptual album and featured a more progressive metal sound than their metalcore roots.
Fans aren’t sure what to expect from this new album, but with inspiration from Kanye West, fans can expect the band’s new sound to be unlike anything they have ever heard before.
