On Sunday night, The Weeknd performed on the biggest stage in the world and that was at halftime of Super Bowl LV in Tampa.
He had a very unique performance that also included him showcasing some of his greatest hit records, including the chart-topping “Blinding Lights,” which was released in November 2019 and hasn’t slowed down at all since. This has since become arguably the biggest single of the Toronto native’s career.
Now, it has broken another record as usual on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

‘Blinding Lights’ Becomes Most Successful Hot 100 Record Of The Century
As The Weeknd was hitting the stage in Tampa, Blinding Lights started to accumulate streams heavily and started to top the charts all over again. According to Chart Data, it is now the biggest Hot 100 hit this century. During the performance, Blinding Lights also sold 7 million units in the US. It also returned to No. 1 on the US chart on iTunes. Other hit records such as “I Can’t Feel My Face,” “I Feel It Coming” featuring Daft Punk, and “Earned It” also returned to the top 10 of this chart.
The Weeknd Also Helped Feed Healthcare Workers In Tampa
Over the last week, The Weeknd has also been helping healthcare workers in Tampa. He partnered with Postmates to deliver food to these citizens as the food were also from local Black-owned businesses. The first healthcare facility that was taken care of was AdventHealth Carrollwood medical facility. There, 150 meals were sent from Mama’s Southern Soul Food. This restaurant is also highlighted on the front page of the app in Tampa as a celebration of Black History Month as it’s done very well in the city as well.
The Weeknd Also Received His Own Day In Hometown On Sunday
In addition to The Weeknd‘s epic Super Bowl halftime performance, he was also honored in his hometown of Toronto. February 7 was officially named “The Weeknd Day” by Mayor, John Tory.
“This Sunday – on Super Bowl Sunday – we celebrate The Weeknd as he becomes the first Canadian to headline a solo halftime show and only the third Canadian ever to perform live at one of the world’s most-watched events. Toronto is proud that one of its own, The Weeknd, has achieved such enormous popularity both here at home and on the world stage. NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor John Tory, on behalf of Toronto City Council, do hereby proclaim Feb 7th, 2021 as ‘The Weeknd Day’ in the City Of Toronto.”

The Weeknd’s ‘The Highlights’ Album Became Most Streamed Album On Spotify In A Week
A few weeks ago, The Weeknd also released his “The Highlights” album, which is a compilation projects of his greatest hits. This has been posting epic numbers as well as it is now the most streamed album of all-time on Spotify. This is after it accumulated 12 billion streams, according to Chart Data. Some of the notable records on this album are Blinding Lights, “Heartless,” “The Hills,” “Earned It,” and “Can’t Feel My Face.” This project was definitely a great way to celebrate The Weeknd’s legendary career as well as showcasing his music to new fans.
