The ‘Seattle Seahawks’ star QB was awarded the Walter Payton ‘Man Of The Year‘ award which recognizes the player for outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field. Each team nominates one player for their team, 32 in all, and the winner receives a $40,000 donation in their name to the charity of their choice.
Wilson’s famous wife, Ciara, posted a heartwarming message to her husband celebrating the huge accomplishment.

Ciara and Russell Wilson run the ‘Why Not You Foundation,’ which he started in 2014. The foundation has donated over $9 million to ‘Strong Against Cancer,’ and he makes weekly trips to the Seattle Children’s Hospital during his career to visit the young patients receiving treatment. Even after the COVID-19 pandemic hit in the United States, Russell continued the visits virtually.
“Russell Wilson has always prioritized serving his community, but this year, he met the challenge and more when it was needed most,” the NFL commissioner said in a statement.
Adding, “He has shown continued excellence on the field for nine seasons, but the work he has done to help youth and fight food insecurity through his Why Not You Foundation bolsters his lasting legacy. Russell is extremely deserving of this award and I know he will use this as an additional springboard to continue to positively impact others.”
