Oliver Hudson Recalls The Time He Disappointed Dad Kurt Russell

Oliver Hudson shared an interesting story from his teenage days.

The "Dawson's Creek" star, 45, revealed that he got arrested when he was only 16 -- allowing police officers to call his parents. At first, they didn't believe him when he told them who his dad was -- the famous Kurt Russell, 70.

On a recent episode of "Live with Kelly and Ryan," Hudson recalled the time he got held up at the police station as a teenager, and his movie star dad got the call about the incident.

"I did get arrested when I was 16 years old," Hudson admitted, adding, "It was a crazy story 'cause they had to call the parents, and they said, 'What's your dad's name?' and I said, 'Oh my God. Kurt Russell.'"

The law enforcers were in disbelief, but he was telling the truth.

"They're like, 'No, kid, what's your dad's name?' And I said, 'It's Kurt Russell,'" he said.

As they realized that he was serious, the cops "started fighting over who was gonna make the phone call," as per the "Grown Ups 2" star.

"When Kurt gets that phone call, is he upset or is he understanding? Is he the Kurt I fantasize that he is?" talk show co-host Kelly Ripa inquired.

"Yes, he is. He is," Hudson stated. "Look, we were stupid. We had paintball guns. We were doing dumb things, as kids do. He understood what it was like for him when he was the age; he did stupid stuff as well. But he was not a happy dad, let's just say that."

In 2018, Kate Hudson's brother also opened up about the same incident while on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Russel's punishment for the then-young lad was simple yet effective.

When the "Escape from New York" actor picked up Hudson at the station, he told him shoot his own car with a paintball gun as punishment.

"My punishment was to shoot up my Honda Prelude with blue leather interior," Hudson told Kimmel. "I had to shoot up my car, dent it up, and drive that for the rest of my existence."

He added, "His philosophy is, I know what I did was wrong, right? So why ground me?"

He added, "So at point-blank range you're going to destroy your car and you're going to have to drive it for the rest of however long you own this car."'

While Russel is not Hudson's biological dad, their bond is strong despite not being blood-related. The actor is the eldest son of Goldie Hawn, 76, who she shares with ex Bill Hudson, 72. He maintained a tight-knit relationship with his stepfather, who started dating the "Overboard" star when he was only 6.

Hudson opened up about his relationship with his estranged dad during a recent interview.

“I had posted something that was darkly comedic and it blew up into something, and actually it helped us with our relationship," Hudson said on "Larry King Now," adding, "So now we’re kind of keeping in touch."
