Dustin Diamond, who was famously known for playing 'Screech' on 'Saved By The Bell' has died after a short battle with lung cancer. He was 44.

According to reports, the legendary actor died Monday morning after a short and aggressive battle with lung cancer. Dustin's condition reportedly drastically declined in the past few days and was not completely breathing on his own.

The shocking news comes just days after the announcement the actor was suffering from the disease, and had completed his first round of chemotherapy following a diagnosis of small cell carcinoma.

Apparently, cancer started in some other location in the actor's body -- and metastasized in his lungs. Dustin was taken off of the breathing machines in an attempt to get him into hospice care, one report states. Dustin's father was by his side when he passed away.

As we reported, the 'Saved By The Bell' star was initially hospitalized in January after 'feeling pain all over his body', and unfortunately, it turned out to be cancer.

As you know, the legendary actor played 'Screech' in the long-running NBC sitcom, alongside Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) as his nerdy sidekick, who spent most of his time vying for the affection of Lisa Turtle (Lark Voorhies).

After the sitcom was canceled, the actor played small roles in a spin-off and was interestingly not cast in Peacock's new reboot of the popular show. Back in January, he opened up about the new project, saying he wasn't signed on, but hoped the network would reconsider his role in the upcoming show.

Over the years, Screech took part in a few crazy stunts including directing his own sex tape, which was distributed on DVD in the 2000s -- but later admitted to Oprah Winfrey that it was, in fact, a stunt double in the film. Dustin also appeared on several reality shows, including 'Celebrity Fit Club.'
