There’s casting shakeups going on at “The Young and the Restless” set.
Donny Boaz, who plays Chance Chancellor on the CBS soap announced Sunday via Instagram that he’s been let go.
Boaz revealed that his last airdate will be on Monday, February 1st.
The actor joined the show in November 2019, and his portrayal of Chance was met with mixed reactions.
Despite the lukewarm feedback from viewers, Boaz’s character became a central part of the show and was involved in several storylines.
Now, fans are wondering what will become of his Y&R character.
Who Is Donny Boaz?
Prior to starting an acting career, Boaz worked a male model for brands such as Calvin Klein and Abercrombie.
By 2003, he was concentrating on his acting career. One of his earliest roles came in the made for TV movie “Saving Jessica Lynch.”
From there on he would last guest gigs on shows such as the “Dallas” reboot and “Queen of the South.”
He would also score roles in small films including: “12 Pups of Christmas” and “The Adventures of Pepper and Paula.”
But like most actors, he gained attention due to his soap opera role.
Chance Chancellor’s History
The character of Phillip Chancellor IV or Chance as he’s referred to, is part of one of Genoa City’s prominent families.
His parents are Nina Webster and Phillip Chancellor III. His grandparents are Jill Abbott and the late Phillip Chanellor II, the husband of Katherine Chancellor.
Chance’s father dies when he’s a young boy, and he’s raised by Nina and her husband Ryan McNeil. Chance has a close bond with Ryan, who he considers his true father. Even though Ryan and Nina eventually divorce, he remains a fixture in Chance’s life up until his tragic death in 2001.
Chance and Nina would leave Genoa City, but make several returns. After serving in the Army, Chance comes home where he now does work for the police station. He then sparks romances with Chloe Mitchell and later Heather Stevens.
After another brief departure, Chance returns to town in 2019. He begins working with the police department again, and he also finds love with Abby Newman.
The two hit it off, and as their relationship grows serious, tragedy strikes when Chance is shot while protecting Adam Newman. He recovers, and he and Abby wed.
Recently, the newlyweds have began trying for a baby, which has hit a few snags.
Boaz’ Political Beliefs Created Trouble
Aside from being miscast in the role of Chance, Boaz had a tendency to upset fans with is political beliefs.
The actor is known as a conservative, and was a supporter of former President Trump.
The 40-year-old wasn’t shy about sharing his political opinions on social media.
Boaz’s beliefs led to criticism from fans, whose dislike for the actor continued to grow.
When news of Boaz’s firing hit the web, some soap fans took the opportunity to celebrate, flooding Twitter with tweets of gratitude over the actor’s exit.
Will Chance Be Recast?
Boaz’s upcoming departure has led to the question of what becomes of Chance.
“The Young and the Restless” currently has Chance and Abby in a big storyline with them struggling to have a baby. Abby’s friend Mariah has just agreed to be the couple’s surrogate, yet in an upcoming preview Chance informs his wife he can’t give her a baby.
According to Boaz’s Instagram post, he was informed Chance was being killed off or replaced. Odds are Chance will have to go on a mission, which will put a damper on his and Abby’s baby plans along with a strain on their marriage.
Although, there’s been no news about a recast, many fans believe the show will find another actor to fill the role. Some have even suggested Melissa Ordway’s real-life husband Justin Gaston come back to reprise the role.
Time will tell what the show plans to do with the character, but there’s going to be a void left in Abby’s heart with Chance’s departure.
