Matthew Stafford is done with his time in Detroit and is heading out west for a new career in sunny Los Angeles. News broke Sunday that the 32-year-old quarterback was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for the Rams’ first-round draft picks in 2022 and 2023, a third-round pick in 2021, and also their quarterback, Jared Goff. Stafford has been a part of the Detroit Lions organization since he was drafted in 2009, but it seems both he and his family are excited about the move to Los Angeles.
Matthew Stafford has not yet confirmed the news himself, but the trade to Los Angeles is the talk of the town with just about every big sports pundit weighing in on the NFL shakeup.
Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that the Chicago Bears were also in on the action surrounding the Stafford trade, and allegedly offered more than just a first-round pick, but it wasn’t enough to seal the deal and Stafford is headed out to join Sean McVay and company.
Although Matthew Stafford has not confirmed the news himself, his wife, Kelly Stafford has not shown the same restraint and just posted on Instagram about her family moving to Los Angeles.
“Pretty excited about all the Cali sunsets in our future,” Kelly captioned a video of Matthew Stafford embracing their four children while watching a beautifully rich Southern California sunset.
She had recently shared some video of the QB and his family enjoying one of their last snow days in Michigan.
Days before the big announcement about joining the Los Angeles Rams, Kelly Stafford shared a sweet goodbye to the people of Detroit after spending so many years with the Lions franchise.
“Thank you. This place, our home, the people… it’s hard to find the words to explain what this place means to me,” Kelly captioned a photo with Matthew.
She continued, “Random tears come very often when I think about not being here. This place supported me during the toughest time of my life and during the happiest times and I want to thank y’all in the right way.”
