Harrison Ford Reportedly Making ‘Star Wars’ Cameo In ‘The Book Of Boba Fett’

Is Harrison Ford about to make a comeback to a galaxy far, far away?

As The Blast previously reported, rumors of Ford’s return as the loveable scoundrel set the Internet abuzz in mid-December. At the time, Ford was said to have filmed a scene as a de-aged Han Solo for a Disney+ live-action series, which, given the timeline, narrowed it down to either “The Mandalorian” or “The Book of Boba Fett.”

Ford first made his appearance as the “scruffy-looking nerf herder” in 1977's “A New Hope.” He reprised his role in 1980’s “The Empire Strikes Back” and finished the trilogy off with 1983’s “Return of the Jedi.”

Ford didn’t return to the franchise until 2015 when J.J. Abrams introduced the new “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, “The Force Awakens.” Although fans were excited to see the trio of Ford, Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Organa/General Organa) on screen again, Fisher sadly passed away before the trilogy could finish completion.

“The Force Awakens” also saw Han Solo meet his end at the hands of his son, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) so fans never truly got the reunion they were hoping for. However, Ford did make one quick appearance in 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker” to help close out the trilogy.

The source of the rumor comes from Giant Freakin Robot, who said they have an exclusive scoop into the inner workings of the Disney magic. According to their source, Ford spent three days in London shooting a cameo for “The Book of Boba Fett” finale.

This seems to fit with what past rumors have said, since “The Book of Boba Fett” takes place about thirty years before “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The latest “Star Wars” live-action series takes place in the same time period as its predecessor, “The Mandalorian,” in 9 ABY, about five years after the events of “The Return of the Jedi.”

This wouldn’t be the first time that an original trilogy character would be de-aged to make an appearance in a Disney+ live-action series. In the season two finale of “The Mandalorian,” Mark Hamill made an appearance as the legendary Jedi in order to take Baby Yoda (aka Grogu) for training. Hamill was also de-aged for the role, making him look roughly the same age as he did during “Return of the Jedi.”

It’s not clear why Disney tapped Ford for the role instead of Alden Ehrenreich, who portrayed a young Han Solo in 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” The film was a box office flop, and it could be that Disney is trying to distance itself from the film's lackluster reputation. At the same time, Ford is 79, and it’s more than possible that this might be Ford’s last trip to a galaxy far, far away. However, fans have their fingers crossed that Disney will find a way to incorporate Ford in future installments.

At least this isn’t the only time that fans can look forward to seeing Ford again on screen.

Fans are desperately hoping to get more information about the still-untitled “Indiana Jones 5” sometime in 2022.

The film’s production has been pushed back several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic and due to a shoulder injury that Ford sustained over the summer while he was filming a fight scene. He was witnessed out and about London with his arm in a sling and did not return to the set until October.

The film is described as a sequel to 2008’s “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” which has been heavily criticized for its outlandish plot which seemed to focus more on aliens than historical artifacts. The fifth film in the franchise will be directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the script along with Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth.

“Transformers” actor Shia LaBeouf won’t be making a return in this film, but Ford will be starring alongside “Fleagbag” Phoebe Waller-Bridge and “Hannibal” Mads Mikkelsen. Other than the cast, surprisingly little is known about the plot of the film, which is currently scheduled for a theatrical release next year.

The fifth installment in the “Indiana Jones” franchise currently has an anticipated release date of June 30, 2023.
