Matt Damon is being served up a heaping pile of backlash to start the New Year.
However, this new helping of backlash is in regard to a commercial that aired in October.
Damon stars in a Crypto.com commercial which originally aired in October, but it’s NOW going viral.
He became the face of the cryptocurrency exchange app last year. The app allows users to buy, sell and store cryptocurrencies.
Matt Damon’s Under Fire For Crypto.com Commercial
According to MarketWatch, Crypto.com signed Damon as part of a $100 million advertising campaign directed by “Inception” cinematographer Wally Pfister, with ads set to air in more than 20 countries.
And let’s just say, the commercial is not good look for Damon, especially after last year’s comments about racial slurs.
In the commercial, Damon can be seen walking into white, blank room with high-ceilings and corridors.
He starts off saying, “History is filled with almosts. With those who almost adventured. Who almost achieved, but ultimately for them it proved to be too much.”
Fortune Favours The Brave

Throughout the entire commercial, Damon is walking past historical moments in history. He walks past an early pioneer who sailed the ocean blue to discover new lands.
“Fortune Favors The Brave”
The commercial continues, “Then there are others. The ones who embrace the moment and commit. And in these moments of truth these men and women, these mere mortals, just like you and me. As they peer over the edge, they calm their minds and steel their nerves with four simple words that have whispered by the intrepid since the time since the time of the Romans. ‘Fortune Favors The Brave.’”
Damon continues his quest past a climber on Mt. Everest, the Wright Brothers and astronauts.
The clip concludes with Damon peering out a window at a crimson planet as the words “crypto.com” appear on the screen.
Twitter Doesn’t Favor Matt Damon
Crypto.com captioned the commercial, “A tribute to those who got us this far. And an invitation to those who will take us further.”
The comparison between monumental moments the defined our history and the new frontier of cryptocurrency didn’t land well with anyone.
One person took to Twitter writing, “There isn’t enough yuck in the world to describe Matt damon advertising a Ponzi scheme. Correction: there isn’t enough yuck in the world to describe Matt Damon advertising a Ponzi scheme *and comparing it to the moon landings.”

One unamused and unethused critic wrote, “You may be zoned out during commercials and not have noticed, but there’s an ad with Matt Damon that likens trading cryptocurrency to climbing a mountain and being an astronaut.”
Another really hit below the belt tweeting, “Matt Damon in an advert for crypto? What a shameless c**t.”
Hill reporter Zack Budryk tweeted, “The Matt Damon crypto ad makes me earnestly wonder if he has some sort of Nicolas Cage-style debt from buying saint skeletons or something.”
Hmm… now that’s an interesting theory.
“Saddest thing about Matt Damon’s macho-baiting crypto pitch where the viewer must ACT NOW or he’s a weak p***y is that this is a top 3 classic pitch all financial schemes have used to goad men into forking over their paltry savings. Nothing has changed in 150 years,” tweeted another.
