It has almost been a year since rising Brooklyn rapper, Pop Smoke, was shot and killed in a Hollywood Hills, CA home. This property was owned by ex-“Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Teddi Mellencamp and her husband, Edwin Arroyave.
The four suspects ended up being arrested in July and charged for murder. Two of them were minors. Smoke was starting his acting career before he passed as well with the latest being “Boogie,” a basketball film which also stars Taylor Takahashi. This film will be out in theaters on March 5.

Boogie tells the story of a basketball star named Alfred “Boogie” Chin who has big basketball dreams. Smoke plays the role of Monk, one of Boogie’s basketball rivals in New York City. The trailer was officially been released on Tuesday and it didn’t disappoint at all. The character of Boogie also shows how Asian basketball players are on the rise as well. The trailer also displays Smoke on the court getting ready to play in a game. The visuals played Smoke’s “Got It On Me” song from his 2020 debut studio album, “Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon.”

“A lot of actors just don’t have the depth of emotion and experiences, but because of what Pop’s gone through, he has a tremendous well to draw from,” Huang said to the New York Times. “Kids were coming on the bridge to watch us shoot the scenes,”

Smoke‘s debut album was released in July and it saw instant success. It debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart and was led by the first single, “Make It Rain,” featuring Rowdy Rebel. Other hit singles included “The Woo” feat. 50 Cent and Roddy Ricch and “For The Night” feat. Lil Baby and DaBaby. Fans were also really into the singles “Mood Swings” feat. Lil Tjay and “What You Know Bout Love.” The album has since gone platinum in the US as well.
Fans Hope For More Unreleased Music From Smoke In 2021
Due to the massive success of his “Meet The Woo 2” mixtape in February 2020 and the debut album, fans are craving for more music from Smoke‘s estate this year. Hopefully, this will be a real possibility. Smoke is also nominated for his first Grammy award his march for his 2019 breakout hit single, “Dior.” The category it falls in his Best Rap Performance.
