Patton Oswalt has apologized for his recent performance with Dave Chappelle.

Oswalt said that they had been friends since he started comedy 34 years ago.

Their collaboration drew criticism because of Chappelle’s outspoken comments against the trans community.

Oswalt said that he is an LGBTQ ally and described himself as “a loyal friend.”

He said that he had hesitations about cutting Chappelle off due to his views.

Oswalt admitted that he still carries guilt over friends he’s cut off in the past.

“And I’m sorry, truly sorry, that I didn’t consider the hurt this would cause,” he added.

He said that he “naively” deleted some comments criticizing him, which partly fueled the backlash.

“Ugh. So easy to think someone ELSE needs growth and miss the need in yourself,” he wrote. “Gonna keep trying.”
