Recently, the trailer of the Netflix movie “Malcolm and Marie” was released. The movie is to be released to the theaters in January 2020. Also, the movie is scheduled to be coming to Netflix on February 5, 2021. It stars John David Washington and Zendaya.

After fans viewed the trailer, many began anticipating its premiere, while others didn’t hold back their thoughts on the movie.

Their critical comments are regarding the age difference between Washington and Zendaya, with Zendaya being 24 years old and Washington 36.

John David Washington is an American actor born on July 28, 1984, and was a football runner back. For four years, Washington played this part for the “United Football League’s Sacramento Mountain Lions.”

He is also the son of American actor Denzel Washington. He followed in his father’s footsteps, making his first screen appearance in “Malcolm X” along with his father in 1992, when he was just six years old.

Ever since, Washington has been on our TV screens starring in various movies such as “Tenet,” “Monsters and Men,” “The Old Man & the Gun.” Currently, he has a net worth of $6 million.

Zendaya is an American actress and singer born on September 1, 1996. Her career began as a child model and back up singer, before gaining prominence for her role as Rocky Blue in the Disney Channel sitcom “Shake It Up.”

The actress Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman known popularly as just Zendaya, after “Shake It Up” has starred in many other movies including: “K.C. Undercover,” “The Greatest Showman,” and many others.

She started her music career sometime in 2011 when she released her singles. Ever since, she’s been doing well with her music and movie career.  

“Malcolm and Marie” is a 2021 film directed by Sam Levinson, starring John David Washington and Zendaya as the protagonists. 

Malcolm a filmmaker and his girlfriend Marie, after returning from the premiere of his movie, awaits the inevitable criticism to his movie, however they soon have tensions in their relationship when revelations about their relationship comes out, which put their love for each other to a daily test. 

The movie was filmed in 2020 from June 17 to July 2 in California, during the coronavirus pandemic with strict adherence to the pandemic’s safety guidelines. Before the shooting began, they were all tested for coronavirus and were quarantined for two weeks. 

The social media users had reactions to the age difference between Washington and Zendaya. They complained of younger actresses always starring with older men as their lovers. 

One of the social media users said this “Anyways, my criticism of the film is that Zendaya could’ve gotten a male costar HER age. John almost 40 years old. It’s tiring for me…”

Washington, in an interview with Variety said “I wasn’t concerned about it because she is a woman. People are going to see in this film how much of a woman she is. She has far more experience than I do in the industry, I’ve only been in it for seven years. She’s been in it longer, so I’m learning from her. I’m the rookie. I was leaning on her for a lot.”

Zendaya however hasn’t made known her opinion about the controversial criticism.
