Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin today admitted she was unhappy in a photo that suggested otherwise. The 31-year-old five-time Olympic medalist has been cramming her stories with quite the throwback today – while the Russian-born star kicked the day off in promo mode for breakfast cereal Magic Spoon, stories for her 1 million Instagram followers quickly took the “post a pic of” route. Nastia included a rare childhood shot of herself in a swimsuit, plus a more unexpected snap. Check it out below.
Scroll for the photo. If you don’t live inside Nastia’s Instagram, the 2008 all-around champion is big-time known for her fashion edge, with her photo dating back quite some time – back in April 2020, Nastia was using it as a throwback to talk about her blonde hair.
The photo, sun-drenched and seemingly taken on the streets forming the star’s Dallas, TX base, showed her looking sun-kissed and straight-up beautiful as she flaunted her Gold Medal legs in quite the skimpy look.
Nastia, wearing a bright pink cardigan knotted at the chest and with nothing underneath, had paired the girly upper with a tiny denim miniskirt, with the high ponytail finish and warm makeup flying the flag for all things girly.
The caption gave away what was going on inside, though. “Post a pic of…” was the prompt, with the fan writing: “A picture you look happy in but weren’t.” Liukin also happens to have had her fair share of hardships lately. See her anorexia storm below.
Nastia made headlines in the fall of last year as a fan DM asked her how she feels about “promoting borderline anorexia looking bodies.” Totally not okay in Nastia’s books, with the gymnast firing back and writing:
“If taking pictures of my OWN body — a body that won me many Olympic medals, a body that I push each day to get stronger, a body that God gave me — is inherently promoting anorexia, then honestly, we’ve gotten to a place in the world where just BEING is offensive.”

Nastia has plenty going on. The star who retired aged just 22 back in 2012 is running her The Muse Collective empowerment startup, with recent activity on her IG pointing towards a dog line named after her pooch Harley. That’s minus the $55 Celery Green Cream Nastia retails with Volition, her leotard collabs, and her influencing gigs. Nastia also ended 2020 on a high by inking a movie deal in “Little Gymnasts.”
