“The Masked Singer“ is a global success around the world. After the British public enjoyed their first season, the show returned for another.
Host Joel Dommett and panelists Davina McCall, Rita Ora, and Jonathan Ross all came back. However, actor Ken Jeong, who is on the panel for the US show, has been replaced by comedian Mo Gilligan.
So far, three celebrities have been unmasked.
Alien was pop singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Seahorse was Spice Girl Mel B. The latest episode saw Swan get the boot, who was revealed to be “Love Actually” actress and chart-topping songstress Martine McCutcheon.
All the stars eliminated so far have been British. However, fans are confident that Badger is a huge international name.
Badger’s First Appearance
For Badger’s first performance, they proved they could sing after belting out to Nina Simone’s iconic “Feeling Good.”
It was clear from the beginning that this person is a vocalist.
Their first clue package didn’t give too much away. Badger revealed they are used to being anonymous, not easily recognized on the street, and see things like a virtual world, per Radio Times.
The panel guessed a series of names — David Myers, Andy Serkis, Idris Elba, and Jay Kay — and appeared pretty clueless who it might be.
Badger’s Second Appearance
For Badger’s second performance, they sang another big number — Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing.” Like their first appearance, they proved once again that they are a well-trained singer.
For Badger’s second clue package, they said they used to be shy when they were younger and would write poems about girls that they liked at school. They were seen reading a “Poetry In Motion” book while wearing a leather jacket that said “love” on the back. During one part of their VT, Badger was also seen standing by a piece of paper on the wall that showed a periodic table of elements.
The panel’s guesses were all over the place again — Alan Titchmarsh, Brian Cox, Will Young, Ross Kemp, and Christopher Biggins.
They clearly have no clue who it is. However, viewers have completely figured out their identity.
A Grammy Award-Winning Star
From their singing voice and clue packages, fans have managed to suss out that Badger is the three-time Grammy Award winner Ne-Yo.
The “So Sick” chart-topper has penned hits for Beyonce, Rihanna, and Janet Jackson to name a few, which links to him saying that he is used to being anonymous.
His stage name is a reference to the “Matrix” character Neo, which relates to him seeing things in a “virtual world.”
His single “Sexy Love” samples the Redeyes song “Poetry In Motion,” which was the title of the book Badger was reading. The back of his jacket also said “Love.”
Another big giveaway was the periodic table having Ne circled in the shape of an O.
In September, he was spotted in London during the time they filmed the show.
Lots of Badger’s clue packages have included a motorbike, just like the one in his music video for “Closer.“
Social Media Reaction
Over the past couple of weeks, social media have been trying to tell their followers Badger is Ne-Yo.
“I’m so convinced that Badger is Ne-yo (obviously putting on a dodgy accent). His voice is so distinctive,” one user wrote.
“The badger has to be Ne-Yo. That voice is too recognisable,” another person shared.
“Badger is Ne-Yo on #maskedsinger Ne circled on periodic table in clue, ‘lives in a virtual world’ Neo from Matrix referring to his stage name. Sounds like him as well,” said another fan of the show.
