“Teen Mom” star Mackenzie McKee is a beast when it comes to working out and staying fit, but the MTV star revealed she was seriously hurting during a half marathon with her pregnant sister. McKee took to Instagram over the holiday weekend to share the details of the cardiovascular feat, which ended up being more than the mother of four bargained for when she began to feel the effects of having low blood sugar and needed to spring into action quickly to avoid a medical issue.
Mackenzie McKee addressed her 1 million followers with a sense of relief while reflecting on the half marathon she ran with her sister in Oklahoma.
“My sister , babygirl and I did a half marathon today,” McKee wrote while showing a few photos of herself and her pregnant sister, Whitney.
McKee added, “From commerce OK to Baxter Kansas. It was my 4th one to complete and one of my worst times ?. . The first half I did amazing, then my sugars started taking a dip and I ate then realized I needed to eat more.”
Mackenzie McKee said that by the 9th mile of the 13 mile race, she began to slow down to an “embarrassingly” slow pace, but continued to trudge ahead.
“My sugars were just not having it. But I finished. However, if you saw a weirdo blonde running with her hands in the air, I blame it on Luaren Daigle ?. Who knew the best worship session I’d ever have would be during a half marathon feeling like I’m about to die,” McKee wrote.
The half marathon with her sister was probably even more special for Mackenzie McKee because the holidays are especially tough as her mother, Angie Douthit, passed away last December before Christmas after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
The “Teen Mom” star took to Instagram last week to pay tribute to her mother, as the two were extremely close:
“Super emotional this morning,” McKee wrote on Christmas morning.
She continued to address her late mother: “Been up since 5 am crying for you. But my kids are about to awake and open their presents and now I choose to stay strong and thank God for 24 Christmas with you.”
