Ant Anstead In A 'Very Dark Place' After Breakup

“Every day is an improvement. Obviously, going back a couple of months, I mean, it was a big hit,” Anstead describes, adding that after the split he was in “a very dark place.”

After the breakup, Anstead admits he lost 20lbs telling People, "It really hit me hard. The impact on me, my sleep, my diet, my stress, it showed."

Adding, “But I reached this turning point where I was either going to dwell in the darkness or I was just going to slap myself around the face a few times and say, ‘Wake up; you’re incredibly blessed. Focus on all the great things.’”

Reality Star Says His Other Kids 'Loved Christina, They Still Do'

“It was a very, very difficult FaceTime call,” he described breaking the news to his children overseas.

He continued, “They loved Christina — they still do — and they really wanted us to work. I think every child just wants to see their parents happy.”

The good news, he is currently able to smoothly co-parent with Christina after the reality star filed for joint custody of their young son, Hudson. "There’s never been a scenario where I’ve asked for him and not had him and vice versa,” he explained. Adding, "This process without him would’ve been incredibly difficult. He’s filled my heart. He really saved me."

'There's No Quick Fix For A Broken Heart'

Interestingly, Ant described taking matters into his own hands in the days following the split, signing up for a 35-day online 'breakup recovery' course, and a three-day faith-based retreat that focused on physical health.

Ant, who moved to the U.S. from Europe, says he will remain in Orange County, CA where he rented a home in Laguna Beach. The house is just minutes from Christina's home in Newport Beach, which he deeded over to her once the couple was married.

It 'feels like a refuge' the reality star told the outlet. He claims to be working on a few new television projects which have not been announced.

In the end, he says, “there’s no quick fix for a broken heart.”
