Ryan Seacrest Talks Maintaining ‘Tough’ Pandemic Work Schedule
Time and time again Ryan Seacrest has proven himself to be one of the busiest men in Hollywood, and despite a year that left many in the entertainment industry largely displaced, Seacrest affirms the fact that he has been as busy as ever, albeit in different ways.
In a new chat with “ABC,” the famous host got candid about what his 2020 has consisted of and how he has maintained such a rigorous work ethic despite the inherent difficulties COVID-19 and subsequent societal effects have had on the world at large.
When the going got tough, Seacrest worked smarter, not harder. The “American Idol” host constructed a fully decked-out studio in the basement of his home where he has largely taken on most of his hosting responsibilities throughout 2020.
“There were also a lot of requests to do extra specials and things for our partners (such as hosting the successful ‘Disney Family Sing Along’ programs) because everyone was going through a tough time. We leaned into doing as much as we could,” he told the network from the basement studio.
On New Years
Despite taking on a lot of his work from his basement studio, Seacrest is still mobile, and that will be proven this week when he takes on his yearly hosting job for “Dick Clark New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” in New York City.
“It may feel a little different on the ground, but I think on the air it’s still going to have that celebratory component to it,” explained the host of how this year will differ from others.
“Most of us can’t go anywhere, so we’re going to really try to put on a good show.”
Despite being a veteran television host, Seacrest admits some public engagements can still trip him up. Namely, as he has discovered as the pandemic unfolded, he faces this issue during large group video calls.
“It’s all of the Zooms that I have to do with 50 people. I can see them all looking and I feel pressured to say something magical and I don’t deliver. I clear my throat. I look at my notes, I get so anxious,” he said of how his nerves sometimes get the better of him during digital communications.
On His Hobbies
Seacrest may be one of the busiest men in the entertainment industry, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have some hobbies that he enjoys during his limited downtime. One such that he has shared as of late is an affinity for olive oil.
“My hobby is growing olive trees, and I’m going to make olive oil. I’m studying how to make organic olive oil in my real life … and it’s been a fascination of mine. I find that, you know, there’s so many different health benefits to olive oil. And I got obsessed with the trees. And I’ve been reading books on how to farm the olives,” he said of his pastime.
