Johnny Depp is a critically-acclaimed actor and the star of the fantasy series “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
During the holidays, Depp posted a message for his fans and well-wishers reflecting on the year 2020 that has to be a long and hard one for many.
The multiple award-winning actors wrote that “This year has been so hard for so many.” He then made cheers as he hoped for better times ahead while also sending his love and respect to all over the holidays.
The heartfelt message was accompanied by a photo of Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan taken on the movie set of “Crock of Gold,” a documentary produced by Depp.
Taking A Break From The World
Fans and other celebrities responded to the actor’s Instagram post almost immediately after he posted it.
Prominent among them are Asia Argento, Stray Cats drummer Slim Jim Phantom and singer Patti Smith. The heartwarming post came after the “21 Jump Street” actor accepted defeat in his libel suit in a U.K. court and his departure from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise.
Depp previously took a break from social media and asides a post promoting the release of the documentary “Crock of Gold,” the actor’s last social media statement was his open letter to fans on November 6, 2020.
False Claims
In the letter, Depp announced to his fans that the “Warner Bros” movie franchise had requested for his resignation from his role as Grindelwald in the “Harry Potter” spin-off series, and Mads Mikkelsen has been cast to take over the role, following what he referred to as the U.K. court’s “surreal judgement.”
Depp then proceeded to sue the News Group Newspapers (NGN), followed by the owner of British tabloid The Sun, and the executive editor of the tabloid, Dan Wotton.
The lawsuit was made in 2018, which claimed to have strong evidence of Depp assaulting his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Johnny Depp’s Day In Court
Although Depp proclaimed himself not guilty of domestic abuse, the judge ruled against him and in favor of the publication as the judge asserted that it was not libel for the newspaper to pronounce him a “wife-beater.”
Depp’s legal counsel filed an appeal in court and asked for a new trial as they termed the original verdict as unjust and alleged that it was based on “uncritical acceptance” of Heard’s testimony.
The counsel continued that Depp had not been given a fair trial. When fans heard this, they felt very bad for the actor and his now shaky care
A Fair Judgement
In a recent statement, Depp’s lawyer, David Sherborne, wrote that the very public judgment was reached by a single judge with findings of serious criminal offenses having been perpetuated.
He continued that the verdict had wide-ranging implications for the public at large, especially victims, or those that have been wrongly accused, of domestic abuse.”
Sherborne also added that his client was concluded guilty of physical assault while ignoring that Heard had lied in her evidence. He gathered that Heard’s testimony was not cross-examined against the evidence presented by other witnesses, and there were no findings on the witness statement.
