President Joe Biden Expresses Condolences For The Late Betty White

President Joe Biden took a moment to pause his presidential duties on New Year’s Eve and express condolences for the passing of the late Betty White.

“The Golden Girls” star was 99-years-old when she passed away earlier today on New Year’s Eve. Both celebrities and fans took to social media to express their condolences and share their shock at White’s sudden passing. White had been making headlines recently as she prepared to celebrate her 100th birthday on January 17, 2022.

“Betty White brought a smile to the lips of generations of Americans,” Biden tweeted. “She’s a cultural icon who will be sorely missed. Jill and I are thinking of her family and all those who loved her this New Year’s Eve.”

“Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds also couldn’t help but take a moment to express his condolences for the loss of “The Golden Girls” actress, who had played his grandmother on screen in the 2009 romantic comedy “The Proposal.”

“The world looks different now,” he tweeted. “She was great at defying expectation. She managed to grow very old and somehow, not old enough. We’ll miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret.”

During a recent interview with People, Reynolds revealed that he had been a fan of White “for as long as I can remember.”

“I heard that scripts for ‘Golden Girls’ were only 35 pages, which makes sense because so many of the laughs come from Betty simply looking at her castmates,” Reynolds said.

He also called White a “typical Capricorn. Sleeps all day. Out all night boozing and snacking on men,” he joked.

Just yesterday, the “Red Notice” star called out People magazine, who posted an article with the headline, ‘Betty White Jokes Ryan Reynolds Still ‘Can’t Get Over’ Her, Despite Her Crush on Robert Redford.”

“I’m absolutely sick of the media exploiting past relationships just to drive clicks,” he tweeted.

Although the tweet was meant in jest, it hits especially hard today.

Many celebrities couldn't help but take to social media in order to express their condolences for the late actress' passing.

“Will & Grace” actress Debra Messingtweeted, “Betty White. Oh noooooooo. I grew up watching and being delighted by her. She was playful and daring and smart. We all knew this day would come but it doesn’t take away the feeling of loss. A national treasure, indeed. Fly with the Angels.”

Comedian and “Late Night” host Seth Meyerstweeted, “RIP Betty White, the only SNL host I ever saw get a standing ovation at the after party. A party at which she ordered a vodka and a hotdog and stayed til the bitter end.”

“Star Trek” alum George Takeitweeted, “Our national treasure, Betty White, has passed just before her 100th birthday. Our Sue Ann Nivens, our beloved Rose Nylund, has joined the heavens to delight the stars with her inimitable style, humor, and charm. A great loss to us all. We shall miss her dearly.”

“When midnight strikes tonight, let us all raise a toast to Betty,” he added.
