'Green Day' frontman Billie Joe Armstrongis dropping out of his performance for Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson's New Year's Eve special after he was exposed to COVID-19.

The rock star made the announcement just hours before NBC starts the live countdown special -- which is filming on location in Miami, Florida. The NYE show is set to start at 10:30 p.m on NBC and Peacock.

The 'Green Day' singer took to Instagram, saying, "After the holiday I found out I was exposed to COVID. I’ve tested negative but I have made the decision not to travel to Miami for New Year’s Eve Party out of caution." He continued, "Happy New Year, and hope everyone stays safe!"

Fortunately, the special is packed with star-studded performances so it won't be completely canceled. According to reports, Jack Harlow, Saweetie, Kitty Ca$h, Anitta, and Brandi Carlile are all scheduled to hit the stage.

Fans are eager to watch Cyrus and Davidson host the festivities after they replaced long-running host Carson Daly, who has been doing the job since 2004. As you know, NBC was forced to cancel the same event last year, making it the last time Daly hosted the event in 2019.

Cancellations are rocking the NYE holiday, with other celebrities dropping out of their shows -- including LL Cool J who was scheduled to headline ABC's broadcast of 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest' but, pulled out after he tested positive for the deadly virus earlier this week. "I know it’s disappointing to the millions of fans but my test came back positive for COVID, which means I’ll no longer be able to perform as scheduled at NYRE," he wrote.

The rapper continued, "We were ready and I was really looking forward to ringing in 2022 in my hometown in a special way, but for now I wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year. The best is yet to come!"

Of course, the biggest draw to the NBC show is if Kim Kardashian is going to make an appearance with her new boyfriend, Pete Davidson. Even if the reality star doesn't make a cameo, fans will be glued to their screens -- hoping Davidson will mention anything about the relationship. Fingers crossed...the new couple decides to go full-public on NYE and share a big fat kiss when the ball drops!

It should be noted, New York City is NOT canceling its NYE festivities -- but, it will ring in the new year with a scaled-down version of the normal events. Everyone invited to watch the ball drop is required to wear a mask. Unfortunately, even though Georgia is in one of their biggest football games ever this afternoon, the city was forced to cancel their New Year's Eve Peach Drop at Underground Atlanta, due to the rising number of outbreaks.

"While we are saddened to miss this year's party and musical acts, we are very excited to bring the Peach Drop back next year and better than ever. Stay healthy everyone!" a statement read.

So...grab a glass of champagne and pull up a spot on the couch!
