How Patrick Mahomes And Fiancee Brittany Are Spending New Year's Eve

As 2021 draws to a close, people reflect on the year they've had and look forward to what 2022 will bring. This includes Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

This year, the NFL star and his team lost the Superbowl 55 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but are keeping up their hopes to do better next year. However, Mahomes has had a much better year off the field, as he and his fiancee Brittany Matthews welcomed their first child, a daughter, together.

In a radio appearance, he recently opened up about his accomplishments this season, how his first Christmas as a father went, and how he plans to welcome 2022 with his family. Here is everything the NFL star said.

Mahomes hopped on a weekly radio spot on The Drive on 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City and talked about what his first Christmas as a father was like, including details about a particular gift his daughter Sterling got that he thought was a "bad sign" for him.

He told show-host Carrington Harrington, "Sterling, I don't think she understood what Christmas was yet, but she understood she got a lot of toys. She was playing with literally everything. It was fun to see her do that."

He then mentioned that she got a Power Wheels gift and said, "It was awesome, and you can control it through a little remote control, too. I think it's a bad sign for me that she's already getting a black Lamborghini. Brittany's already putting it in her head."

Mahomes was also asked about his plans for celebrating New Year's Eve with his family. His reply was, "I will probably be at home with family. I wish we were able to do something on New Year's Eve-wise, but with COVID and everything like that you kind of have to separate yourself."

He also added that "I'm sure Brittany will have something planned for us at the house. I will try to make it to 12-something, but these days that's kind of late for me being the dad that I am now, but I will try to make it until the ball drops in New York."

His plans are similar to that of many people and celebrities who have chosen to stay indoors to protect themselves against the still raging Covid-19 virus and spend some private time with their families.

Before he officially signs out of 2021, Mahomes took the opportunity of his presence on the show to reflect on how the year went for his football team. He noted the Chiefs' progress from where they were at the beginning of the season to where they are now and where they hope to be in the next season.

He said, "This year is as special as any because of the way we started. But winning the AFC West isn't something you just roll out of bed and can do. The teams in our division are great teams. Our first goal every single year is to go out and do it. To be able to go out and get that, we're going to enjoy this moment and carry this momentum to achieve our other goals."

His statements were good news for fans of Mahomes and the Chiefs, as they have also expressed on social media that they look forward to all the victories the team will cinch in the coming year.

The radio host also asked the NFL star to name his favorite Christmas presents that he really wanted from back when he was a kid. Mahomes said, "My gift was a basketball goal. Santa ended up bringing it to me eventually."

He explained that he loved the ball so much and said, "I used that thing literally my entire life until I broke it. It was an awesome gift to get and something I wanted for years… me and my buddy were at the house playing and we were practicing half-court shots and I threw the basketball and it hit the backboard, and it broke the backboard. I think we got it replaced but it took a long time."
